Huge apologies for my first post on here. Im struggling a bit with basics and feel like i may as well have bought a brick. Obviously its user error, but the user guide tells me what to do but nothing about what to do when that doesnt work if you know what i mean....
I have just bought DS110j, installed a hard drive and turned it on. Setup was going very well, managed to setup mapped drives on an XP and W7 machine and started copying data to my huge disk
Then, obviously getting very cocky, i decided to use the EZ internet wizard so i could get access from outside of my LAN.
Im not sure if this was related, but ever since then, i've not been able to access the NAS from anywhere - except through port 5000 in a web browser to view the DSM (from within my LAN). I can do this no problem.
From within my Lan or using my newly acquired DDNS domain:
-I cant ping the NAS on the LAN (i gave it a static IP as thats my preference).
-PC's cant find the server name or the IP when i try to connect to a shared folder.
-The NAS is visible in the windows network - but when i try to connect to it, windows complains and says it cant find the server.
Surely the NAS supports ping? What have i done?
If anyone has got the time to make some suggestions then i really would appreciate it.
Thanks in advance,
Ringo
