DS412+ Poor QC/Build Quality - Extremely Disappointed

Postby johnnyappleseed » Tue May 01, 2012 2:36 am

I received my DS412+ today (April 30) after a long delay due to availability of this model (ordered it on March 25). Unfortunately, it seems that things were rushed to get more of these to market quicker and as a result quality has suffered.

I got everything set up and upgraded to DSM4 and was very happy until I attempted to hook an external USB drive up to start copying my files to my new NAS device.

The two USB ports on the back of the unit, along with the eSata port, do not line up with the holes for these ports on the case of the unit. There is no chance of plugging in a USB device or eSata drive on the back.

Nothing was damaged in shipping, the box was pristine. I just do not see how this was missed before it left the factory; this is one of the easiest and most common checks done on hardware.

I'm not sure the best action to take - whether to return the unit through the reseller, or to try to get it remedied through Synology. Just very frustrating and disappointing, especially after the long wait. Heads-up and buyer beware.
