Windows cannot access \\DiskStation

Postby grao » Thu Jun 02, 2011 3:28 am

When I first installed the DS2iij, it worked fine. The server came up on the Network (running Windows7). However, after 2 days, it can no longer access it (although the icon comes up) and the DSM (running through IE) will connect to the drive. However, the disk replicator program can't access the server, and neither can my xbox. I rebooted the server and no luck. The router assigns an IP to it also. Any help would be appreciated. thx.

Unfortunately I do not have a solution, but I am having the exact same problem for the last couple days. Previously to this I was able to access my Diskstation without any problems. Now when I try to access it, I randomly get the "Windows cannot access \\Diskstation". Sometimes it will work, but most of the time not (using Windows 7). Did you find a solution?

Yes. I ended up mapping the network drive. If you restart, then your diskstation will show up and you will be able to access it. Make a shared folder in Diskstation and map the network drive (you can do this in the software or in Windows). Then a network drive will show up (with an assigned letter, e.g. Z:) and make sure you click "mount on startup.". It has worked everytime I've booted up since I did that.

You may want to email synology support too, they got back to me within a day or so with the solution.

Log into Control Panel, Firewall and check to see if CIFS data is allowed. CIFS is what windows uses for a protocol for network fileshares.

I was having the same issue with Windows 7. To fix it, I went to Control Panel --> Network and Sharing --> Choose HomeGroup and Sharing options --> Change Advanced Sharing Settings --> Under Homegroup Connections --> select Use User Accounts and Passwords to connect to other Computers. I was then able to open the Synology Assistant, and map the drive successfully.
