Non-Standard FTP Ports

Postby jpuck91 » Wed Apr 25, 2012 9:19 pm

Re-opening the earlier thread regarding non-standard FTP ports. I've got 2 synology boxes, a 211+, and a 111. The 211+ functions as our main file server/NAS, and the 111 is set up running SurveillanceStation only. I've also got a D-Link DNS-323 NAS that is being used for on-site backup purposes.

On the router & NAS boxes, the port configurations for FTP access are as follows:

211+ NAS - port 1025
111 NAS - port 1026
DNS-323 NAS - port 21

My current router (D-Link DIR-655), with firmware v2.07 (most current per the website), has a glitch that doesn't allow the virtual server to map external/internal ports correctly. Short version is that you can't have external ports 1025, 1026, and 21 all mapped to internal port 21 on the respective NAS boxes (it has a glitch that reports conflicting external ports even though they are clearly mapped differently and not reserved/used by other services).

Problem with the Synology boxes is that the FTP always errors out if I attempt to access them with any other port than 21. I've tried several different custom port settings (1025, 1080, etc.), without success. However if I change it to the default of 21, it works fine. With each of the custom port settings I've updated the router port forwarding to match, so that's not the issue.

Any ideas?

But you can redirect 1025, 1026, and 1027 to port 21 on each of the three NASes.

I'd use SFTP and redirect 22001, 22002, and 22003 for example to port 22 on each of the three NAS.

That's the issue with the router that I mentioned. For some reason, it doesn't allow you to do that (it's a known glitch, been reported on DLink's forums). So you pretty much have to go with alternate FTP ports on each NAS. If they come out with an update that fixes that, this whole problem will go away. But for now, I've got 1 NAS box that I can't FTP into :x. Or unless somebody knows how to get Synology boxes to work with alternate FTP port numbers.

Will it let you redirect 3 ssh ports so you can use SFTP?

Haven't tried that one. Will give it a shot in the next couple days and see how that works. Thanks for the suggestion.

OK tried redirecting other ports to the Synology NAS's, but still won't work. At this point, not sure if it's a) the Synology NAS's not accepting alternate ports or b) my router screwing up the port translations.
