Please add support for BlackBerry PlayBook

Postby ajoman » Tue Mar 13, 2012 11:44 am

Please add support for BlackBerry PlayBook by repackaging the Android apps, or by creating a native one.

Several application like DS Audio have already been packages by others, but it requires side loading. So please repackage them and be the first NAS vendor with support fro BlackBerry PlayBook.

I just made an account on this website so I could say...
I stronly agree! PLEASE, create a Synology Blackberry Playbook app!!!
Synology just updated to 4.0 and Playbook updated to 2.0
An app that could link the two would just be pure awesomeness!!! 8)

I also would like to have a native Synology apps. Because the emulated sideloaded adroid apps arent't working that good.
e.g. video's couldn't been open because there is no android video player which can be opened from the emulator.
also the landscape orientation is anoying because you always have to rotate the playbook when switching apps.

I would also like to add my support to have native playbook created. As the number of playbook users have grown it would be great to see this platform added to your inventory. It would make not only me but lots of other playbook users happy. At the very least could someone from synology respond to this thread and let us know what the plans are if any.

Thanks

In addition to posting on this forum I suggest we might have more success writing directly to Synology. I submitted an inquiry on the contact form (http://www.synology.com/company/contact_us.php?lang=us) and got the following reply from a 'product specialist' within a day:

Thank you for your support of Synology!

We are considering the possibility to port apps to the Playbook. I am sorry to report that I do not have a timeline for this at present. If you would like to be notified of updates automatically by email, I would invite you to sign up for our eNews, here.

https://myds.synology.com/support/register.php?lang=us

I hope this helps.

Best regards,...

Playbook? Really? How about an app for the Palm III. In 3 years RIMM will be only but memory in the US. And the Playbook isnt as great as everyone claims it. Require a tether to handheld for data?! So 1990's.

dont waste dev time on this. The playbook has been out for a few years now and I have yet to see one in a regular person's hands.   What other hints do you need.

77 million users on the BlackBerry platform and you think it'll be dead in 3 years??? The BlackBerry 10 that is coming out this year blows away apple and android OS's. Those OS's are so limited compared to QNX.
BTW tethering to a handheld for data you think is so 1990's? I supposed you know nothing about the Playbook. The WiFi only version of the Playbook allows you to access the internet utilizing your phones internet connection for FREE. Yes, you heard that right. You can use your Wifi only PlayBook to connect to the internet for FREE! Apple and Android and your phone provider make a sweet little profit when used together but your BlackBerry data sharing is free. Can you access the internet away from Wifi on your wifi only apple or wifi only android for free??? Nope. I don't think so. That my friend is 1990. Wake up and get out of the Apple cloud.

I can use my Android phone to connect any wifi-enabled device to internet just fine, thank you for your concerns. If you bought some Android phone with intentionally crippled ROM then either root it or buy from another vendor next time.

Nice. What phone and what provider allows you to tether or share your internet connection for free? As far as I know none. They all charge you a tethering fee. Except ofcourse if you void your warranty and root your device.

The BlackBerry devices allow you to do this freely. No rooting, no sidestepping. Its all built in. Seamless and free.

None of the operators here charges any tethering fees. There are other countries in the world beyond US, believe it or not...

Agreed. I don't live in the U.S. either.

So what provider allows you to share your interet connection for free and what specific device are you using? I am very interested in this.

[off topic]
Well Steve, Sorry to tell you but most (all??) European countries don't charge for tethering.
[/off topic]

But let's get on topic again. Synology, please make your Apps available for the BB Playbook.
