Something missing after update 2219

Postby axj » Tue Apr 24, 2012 6:14 pm

I have installed the new 2219-release on my DS-212+ and DS-509+ and on both I can see, that something is changed! Most of it is fine, but I have used IPKG, MC and other programs, which now is very difficult. I'm not a master using Linux, CLI and so, but I have used these programs everytime an update should be installed (other times also). The programs are still there, but some links or shortcuts or whatever it is, is gone!
Does anybody know how to re-establish the old way? Especially it should be possibly to write mc<enter> no matter, where in the system you are!

Yes, thank you - but why disabled all these programs?
It is the first updating doing that!

Because the link to the path is broken, so so the programs cant be found anymore. That is new since DSM 4 (started with Beta).

Hmmm - funny! For me, it happened first with 2219 and I have had both the Beta and 2198/99!

Hello. I cannot figure out how to install ipkg although I followed the forum instructions as well as the advices here. My NAS is brand new and I updated to DSM 4.0-2219 before doing anything. However, ipkg cannot be found after I installed the following bootstrap for my system.

Code: Select all
http://wizjos.endofinternet.net/synology/archief/syno-mvkw-bootstrap_1.2-7_arm-ds111.xsh

Maybe it is because I never worked with a Synology before...
What is the best way to restart? How do I clean all pieces of the failed installation?
Best, aussenboarder

@Goner Yes, I uncommented the path settings in /root/.profile.
Did you see the bootstrap I used - is it the correct one for my system?

Finally, it worked. I resetted the whole system and reinstalled DSM 4.0-2219 (without installing an older version first). After, I followed the instructions to install ipkg and this time it worked. Thank you for your help!

How did u make a clean install?

I have been trying to install the ipkg stuff on my new DS212j and DSM4 2219 (after a downgrade) as worked for you, but i could not.

Now I am thinking about start from 0, (after 40hours of timemachine backup...). But seems that the disc has to be formated externally...

Basically u installed from 0 the 2219, followed the simple steps in the wiki and it worked?

Thanks a lot,

Guillem

I'm not sure how you're doing this...

But I followed your instructions:
1. Follow the wiki, all the way until you type sh syno-x07-bootstrap_1.2-7_arm.xsh
2. If it throws an error (which mine did), use the "fix" with the "cd /..." etc
3. reboot
4. Type "ipkg update"

I get:
/bin/sh: ipkg: not found

So I tried again, but I keep getting this:

Code: Select all
nas> sh syno-x07-bootstrap_1.2-7_arm.xsh
sh: can't open 'syno-x07-bootstrap_1.2-7_arm.xsh'
MonsterNAS> cd /volume1
MonsterNAS> sh syno-x07-bootstrap_1.2-7_arm.xsh
Optware Bootstrap for syno-x07.
Extracting archive... please wait
bootstrap/
bootstrap/bootstrap.sh
bootstrap/ipkg-opt.ipk
bootstrap/ipkg.sh
bootstrap/optware-bootstrap.ipk
bootstrap/wget.ipk
1226+1 records in
1226+1 records out
Backup your configuration settings, then type:
  rm -rf /volume1/@optware
  rm -rf /usr/lib/ipkg
This will remove all existing optware packages.

You must *reboot* and then restart the bootstrap script.

What should I do?
Could someone give detailed, treat-me-like-a-noob instructions please? I would really really appreciate it (have been trying to figure this out for the past 5-6 hours).

Hi all,

I tried re-installing fro the top again, but when I tried the "fix" I got a "No such file or directory" error.

ipkg not found error after bootstrapping synology device.

Log in with ssh and move bootstrap to /volume1/@tmp chmod to 755 then execute it. In my experience, it will only partially work if you execute the bootstrap script from another directory and you will not see ipkg installed.

Full steps are;
Set a password for admin
Log in as root
cd /volume1/@tmp
wget the correct boostrap for your machine and ensure that it saves to the @tmp folder.
chmod 755 BootstrapFileName
./BootstrapFileName
rm BootstrapFileName
restart

Okay.. just make the symlink

ln -s /volume1/@optware /opt

Then check that /etc/profile contains

Code: Select all
PATH=/opt/bin:/opt/sbin:$PATH

In /root/.profile set # before this line:
Code: Select all
#PATH=/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/syno/sbin:/usr/syno/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin
#export PATH

That worked for me.

I can confirm it works on ds409slim with dsm 4.1. I really needed this for nano text editor. I can use vi, but i don't have to like it.
