How do I give a user group access to read files in subfolder

Postby weissefar » Sun Apr 22, 2012 12:29 pm

I want to do this:

I want to let users of a user group get access to read files in a specific subfolder.

I have read the guides regarding this, but I can't get it to work ;-(

My configuration is:

WinXP
Synology DS212+
DSM4.0-2198

I have created:

User: Thomas
Usergroup: CanReadNoteSheets

The folder structure is:

Musiker -> LeadSheets

"Musiker" is a shared folder
"LeadSheets" is a subfolder of the folder "Musiker"

Now, how do I give the user group "CanReadNoteSheets" access to read the files in the "LeadSheets" folder so Thomas can login to the server and access the files?

How doI do that?

In File Station, right-click on LeadSheets and select Properties.

On the General tab, establish an Owner and Group for that directory and check "Apply to this folder..."

On the Permissions tab, set the access you want for the Owner, Group, and Others.

Click OK.

Thank you for the reply. I really appreciate it! Well, unfortunately your instructions didn't work... I guess I could do a video to show that I am following your instructions and that I am still stuck with the problem...
