DS111 Can't connect to DSM but can access the directories

Postby Berg » Tue Apr 17, 2012 9:15 pm

Hi,

my DS111 is running with one HD.
Under Win7 I see it under Network and can access the directories. Fine.
A couple of days ago I gave it a fixed IP address. (Via Synology Assistant and DSM)
I know the IP address and can ping it.

Today I can't connect to the DSM via the Synology Assistant, nor with a browser http://diskstation.local:5000/
I verified that there are no address conflicts.

>>> Any idea why I can't connect to it?
>>> Any idea what I could do to access the DSM?

Thank you very much
Rudolf

It looks like your system apache is down for whatever reason.

Try the following command on the CLI (telnet/SSH as root) to start it:

Code: Select all
/usr/syno/etc/rc.d/S97apache-sys.sh start

Hi !
Thanks for the further ideas to check.
I am sorry, but I do not have any telnet experience.
I just do ftp once in a while.
I have downloaded PuTTY but do not know what parameters to set.
- I assume hostname needs to be set to the IP address?
- Connection tyoe SSH or Telnet?
- LOcal username?
- Proxy Type Telnet needed?
Auto login username: root ?
- SSH Remote command to be set to /usr/syno/etc/rc.d/S97apache-sys.sh start

I am a bit lost here...
Thanks for your help,
Rudolf

Synology Modification Wiki
Especially section 1 and 4

In short

Enable SSH on the DSM
Connect with putty (SSH, IP of your DS, user "root", same password as you have for "admin")
When logged in, copy/paste the code above

Hi,
thank's again.
But I do not understand PuTTY and/or it still does not work.
Here one screenshot how I have configured PuTTY.: www.selfsupport.de/synology_debug.pdf
E.g. I do not know where to enter username, password - under proxy?

You start your last thread with Enable SSH on the DSM....thats my problem, I cannot access the DSM at all that is everything about my issue.
>>> If I did not enable anything before, does it make sense to continue this thread at all?
>>> Is there any chance to format the harddisk within the Synology drive from my laptop and start from scratch (but I do not have any utilities to run the drive alone to get it connected to my laptop t o run format x: ....and I do have only laptops, so no way to plug the hard drive)

All tests i did bring up PuTTY Dos kind of screen and short after a error pop up: Network Error: Connection refused

Any other idea?
Many thanks,
Rudolf

ups  completely forgot that you cant enable it.... if you didnt do it before - no chance

OK, cant see another solution than the reset button and reinstallation of the FW (data partition wont be affected).

Synology FAQ: What is the RESET button on the Synology Product for?

BTW: using putty: the first picture is enough, just click on open and you will be asked for username and later for password.

Re: DS111 Can't connect to DSM but can access the directorie

Hi Harry Potter,
maybe interesting feedback.

I just started to write this:

Again, thanks for your help,....but again the same result.
I did a reset (4s + 4, two beeps) it seem to work, as the fixed IP address is gone.
Deinstalled Synology Assistant, reinstalled it new
Started all instructions of the Quick Installation Guide.
Synology Assistant starts, looks for Synology in the network, does not find it.

...BUT then I tried to switch off my McAffee Internet Security suite...
...and suddenly I could see the Synology station....
...but under status it said "lost configuration"....

So, I started from scratch installing a new volume and now everything works.
Reason for no access: Anti Virus/Internet Security...
Reason for losing the configuration: no idea...

Side remark: To create a new volume of 3TB (2.58TB) it took 13 hours !!!. That worked approx 10 times quicker as I did it the first time.

So again THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THE GREAT QUICK HELP!
Rudolf

That was the reset. It doesnt set things back to default but lets you reinstall the FW to have a propre system.
