Thanks, I've ordered 2x4GB ram modules as they only cost £20 as a kit...I'll install one for now.
I have seen some posts about DS1512+ failing (hardware) so to be on the safe side I won't swap out the internal 1GB module just yet as want to remain in warranty.

You might want to keep an eye out for issues identified in this thread regarding additional memory. I have a 4 GB Crucial set (2 x 2 GB) I haven't installed yet because I haven't seen much use of the 1 GB.
DS 1512+ w/3GB, 5 x 3TB Seagate ST3000DM001 8.2TB RAID 6, half files/half Time Machine.

did you put in the RAM? Does it see all 4GB?

Yes I installed both 2GB modules and have no issues, the unit sees the 4GB OK.

both? I thought the DS1512+ only had 1 upgrade slot? Others are saying it only sees 3GB of RAM total.

Others are reporting 3GB because they've only fitted the additional RAM into the empty slot.
I replaced the factory fitted 1GB DIMM. You can just about get to it without having to take anything apart! Therefore giving me 4GB in total, and have no issues. Others have done the same too.
