DS211J orange light and mirgratable problem

I updated the firmware on my DS211J and i now have a problem where the status light is now orange but all the other lights are green.

I have tried re installing the pat 2198 but nothing it still shows a migratable also taken the HD's out and replaced but nothing.

Dows anyone have any ideas as to how i can get the system back up and running even if i need to re format somehow, i just cant seem to get access.

I have the same issue. Assistant finds the DiskStation at its IP but skips over any drive setup saying "migratable". There seems to be no way to access the DiskStation after even at the IP the assistant sees it at. I was going to try removing the drives, booting and adding the one at a time.

I've got the same problem !

Orange light, Migratable status, no access to the admin panel..

Remving the HDD wasn't successful..

Looking for a solution ! I don't want to loose my 900Gb data..

I fixed mine last night though I'm not sure it helps if you need to preserve data. As stated, I couldn't access the DS via any browser even though the Assistant had no trouble finding it and I could ping that address. Tried connecting it directly to my Mac, no luck. Tried disconnecting it from the network and setting up a small hub to the Mac, no luck. Tried every combination of no drives, 1 drive, 2 drives = no luck. Ultimately I fixed it by playing Dr. Frankenstein on an iOmega external drive I had, installing each of the new WD drives I bought into the enclosure and connecting the iOmega unit to my mac. They were detected and showed having a strange looking volume structure which I just had the native Mac Disk Mgr utility wipe out. Did this on both drives, reinstalled both drives in the DS and re-ran the Assistant the same way I had 100x before. This time it did not show migratable and ran the install normally. I was then able to access the DS properly from it's designated IP and finish the rest of the configuration.

My takeaway was that the drives were corrupted somehow and the Assistant lacks the ability figure this out or to wipe them out and start fresh. I think the Assistant could stand to be more robust since the inability to set the DS up to where you can access it through a browser subverts anything other than a hardware "fix".

There was a post on another forum running through a checklist of things to look for one of which was the suggestion of d/l'ing drive utils but unless you have a PC with open bays that really doesn't help. I couldn't even find disk utils for the MAC with my WD drives that weren't specifically for their external drives - not that I had any way of connecting it except in the somewhat unconventional way I did.

Same issue here, though with a 209+II, this is the second time this has happened. Waiting for Support to get back to me.

Well it's still not solved and am still waiting for synology, I've had one reply and that's it. The products is good when it works but the tech support is far too slow.

hellon,

I had the same problem with an DS211J
I retrieve my sync following this procedure :
1) boot the sync without any disk
2) when booted, replace the disks
3) run sync assistant and reinstall dam soft (the system partition
will be reformatted but not the data partition
4) aftr completing the process you will retrieve your has fully operational.

I hope ;)

I just tried this on my 212j and I got a warning message that ALL data would be lost. Did you get the warning message?

Hi

I just did this on my DS212j and I got the warning message but I continued anyway. When continued a tick box was ticked saying "Create SHR... data" something after installation. I un-ticked that box and continued. Then the installation started. The system partion got formated but NOT the data partion. All data still on the disks after installation :D .
This worked for me but if it will work for you I can not guarantee.

Thanks for info and I want to know more details.

for 2) hot swap another disk or replace after shut down ?
