Access FileStation remotely?

Postby Hansel » Sat Apr 14, 2012 11:51 pm

So I've just set up my DS1512. On this site, in the tutorial section, it says the following:
To enable File Station:

Log in to DSM as admin or a user belonging to the administrators group.
Go to Main Menu > Control Panel > File Station.
Tick Enable File Station (HTTP), and click OK.

http://www.synology.com/tutorials/how_t ... p?lang=enu

My problem is that I don't have a File Station option in the Control Panel...

Is anyone able to tell me how I remotely log in directly to File Station? I've tried "myip:7000" and also "myip:7001" (I'm running HTTPS), but they don't seem to work, even internally.

Not sure if that guide is written for DSM 3.2 and things have changed in 4?

Thanks!

Ah, finally found it (right after I posted this. Typical) :)

For anyone else wondering, you need to enable it in Control Panel > Application Portal

I guess all the online tutorials/wiki's etc are going to need to be updated for DSM 4 as it seems a few things are out of date...

:D Thank You :D
I thought I was going crazy, but helped me see the light!! This menu option is not intuitive at all! I had seen it many times but I thought all it did was to give you the option to change the file station port, not to enable the web access. Synology needs to make this a little easier for the users.

How to enable File Station??

Postby hereticdave » Wed May 23, 2012 4:08 am

I have the latest DSM, having just downloaded it earlier today.

I'm trying to activate File Station to use over the browser [port 7000] however this tutorial seems to be out of date [i'm at section 2, subsection "To enable File Station"]

http://www.synology.com/tutorials/how_t ... lang=us#t2

I do not have a File Station icon in the Control Panel. in File Sharing and Privileges i have Win/Mac/NFS, FTp, WebDAV, User, Group, Shared Folder, Directory Service only.

I have a File Station icon on the desktop, but that doesn't load the settings screen referenced in the guide.

How do i activate the service on port 7000 as described? I have tried connecting to it on the off-chance but it won't.

Thanks!

File Station IS enabled to use it within the DSM.

If you want to use it as a separate application go to DSM - Control Panel - Application Portal and edit the entry for FIle Station by adding a shortcut and the port if needed.

Thank you! I had searched "Synology File Station DSM 4 enable" and ran into the same thing. Old instructions. After half an hour of hunting around the DSM options I turned to Google & found this article.

Control Panel: Application Portal: Select FileStation/Edit & enable port 7000.

Easy, just didn't know where to look.
