Very strange...
This rhetoric dosen't work anymore. People are now buying their Synology NAS with the "promise" that they get updated firmware for about 3 years after the purchase. That's one of the reasons why I'm a returning customer. So I too am feeling a bit disappointed, simply because we were told the mac version would be released with the final 4.0 version.
But as long as a mac version is in the works, I'll patiently wait until it's stable enough to be released.

Hello all
Prior to purchasing my DS2411+, I already had my HDC running one 3U Media Server and 1 2U Web Server and Exchange Server. It was and continues to be working fine.
http://nagiprojects.crosscity.com/ I am an avid Dropbox use. When I saw DSM 4.0, I was excited about CloudStation feature and decided to buy DS2411+ just for that feature alone. I am happy I made that decision and have been running the DSM 4.0 Beta since Jan 2012.
While there are limitations to CS in the current form of DSM 4.0 Beta, I would more broadly like to understand the future features planned for CS come DSM 4.0 release this month (I was told in another thread).
Can someone in the Synology CS team kindly share the features planned for the DSM 4.0 release. This would be very helpful.
Thanks much

@thunderbird: Yeah, that sounds like a great idea. Instead of letting part of the people wait for new features, let ALL of them wait!
By the way, I'm sure you didn't found out (or even tried to) that the windows version is still beta (as is the cloudstation itself). So nobody has a fully working and supported new feature right now.
@some others: Great, you finally found out why they started to extract the "applications" from the firmware and moved them to independent packages. This way they can make the firmware itself final without having to wait for all the packages. So the majority of the users can already benefit from the new firmware features and bugfixes (especially for the most important base NAS functions) while some other people (including me) are still waiting for some of the new (non base NAS) features.
@aarfing: I read the same about "released with the final" version for the mac version as you did, but I'm not sure anymore if they meant the firmware itself or the cloudstation package (still beta).

How long we will be waiting to see the CloudStation running on mac? I'm very dissapointed with this release, I want this services on my MAC because I haven't a PC to use it, I'm only using CloudStation on VM's... I can't try it or test it in other way.
Regards.

This is where 4.0 should be better: as e.g. Cloud Station is NOT part of the DSM, but an additional package, first Synology can complete the basic O.S. with key functions that are important for everybody, then they can start fixing one by one the additional parts that are not needed by everybody.
(Which also means that is normal to have a DSM final, with a Cloud Station still in beta)

Who else thinks that it would be really nice if we could configure cloudstation to only automatically sync files under a certain size unless you are on the LAN. It would suck to copy 5GB of large files to your cloud station from home, and turn on your laptop at school or work the next day and have it automatically try to pull that all down over a slow or metered connection. It is even worse if you have a low upload speed at home.

100 MB > 1 GB very nice
2 clients > 4 clients (DS409slim) nice and enough
but still waiting for mobile apps because in same environment i better use shared folders + make available offline, not the cloud station

@maxxfi: That's quite a relief. I'm currently living in switzerland and since then I'm always in fear of missed sarcasm and irony. Let's just say, sarcasm and irony are not the first two things the Swiss are famous for.

Hi all, I just wanted to ask you to confirm my observation.
Having the latest DSM 4.0 and Cloud service enabled, I managed to get a directory synced to my NAS. The thing is (I searched the forum but didn't find the answer) what happens if there is a new version of a file. My feeling is, that it is just the changed part that gets transferred to the NAS, but in the NAS, a new copy of the whole file is created? This can be a significant issue with large files. What I would like to see is, that only differences in files are stored together with initial copy of the whole file. I could't find any technical description of this service on synology pages.
Thanks for any info or pointers to discussions!

I know Dropbox only transfers the part of the file has changed which is pretty clever. I however doubt that Cloudstation works this way. My bet is that it copies the entire file again, but it's my guess.

Hello,
Is it possible to sync another folder than the user's home and to share it among several users, like dropbox service?
Thanks!
