Hi,
Just to share with Synology this problem seems to continue... To watch movies using VLC with have to log in with HTTP and not HTTPS... Can't this be solved?
When I try to use VLC with firefox, I get an error

Same problem here.
In my case cant even play using HTTP. I made necessary browsers file association to play wmv with VLAN. :/
Synology, please fix that. I am hoping that DSM 4.0 will not have same problem.

VLC does work in firefox even 10.0.2 version, you just have to click open in new window.
I think the error is on Synology as when you open the video in the new window, it will just be firefox and not the server anymore.

Synology DS211j DSM 3.2
Firefox 10.0.2 (default install)

I have removed https, and tried to play wmv, mp4 and avi without resolution. Tried the right click and "play" in the DSM and automatically get the VLC error. Also tried to open in a new window and Firefox tries to DL the entire video before playing it, no buffer.
Any help is appreciated as this is rather aggravating with VLC installed and the DSM is telling to go install it.

I would also love an answer to this.
I Spent $200 on the DS212J and bought 2x3tb drives and the MAIN purpose was to keep all
my videos on the NAS drive and view them.

I have latest VLC drivers installed.

I have the latest VLC 2.01 with a ds1511+ and windows 64 bit.
Tried also on windows xp 32 bit have same problem
In addition to this https disabling does not solve the problem. I have https disabled and still get the same error.
So matter what I do I cant play. Please help me.
Anyone else?

im new with ds1511+ and wanted to stream to laptop pc (installed vlc already)
a week ago i can right click inside file station and choose play, and the movie actually played on vlc player (not web!)

The solution for me was to switch off the HTTP -> HTTPS automatic redirect for when you log-in to the Synology. When you want to watch a video via the VLC plug-in, log-in via HTTP... When you want to do anything else, HTTPS...
Hi,
I just wanted to say that for me on Mac, Chrome, with VLC plugin, AVI files will not play. This is even with the redirect (above) turned off. It asks for the plugin to be installed.
Can anyone else confirm this problem with their setup, and is there a solution?!
