DLNA & Samsung TV

Postby Paul_Rushton » Fri Apr 06, 2012 7:17 am

I cannot get Media Server to work with my Samsung TV.

I have a DS209+II (upgraded to DSM 4.0) and have enabled Media Server. My TV is a Samsung UN40D6000 (using the most current software as of April 5, 2012). I have a wireless network connection on the TV. The IP address of the TV does not appear in the DMA list in Media Server but it does appear in the router's device list. I can ping the TV from other computers on the network so I know it's there. Any ideas on how to get Media Server to "see" the TV?

I have a wireless connected Samsung allshare TV as well and that works fine. Verify that DS and TV is on same subnet, if they use DHCP that is ok (though you may have fixed IP for the DS). You should then check in TV network menu that AllShare media is turned on. If Media is turned on DS should detect it, and upon first access TV should ask to allow, but you can enter the Media option and allow the DS device explicitly (it will probably just appear as 'device # - IP' in the list).
DS111 (DSM 4.2) and DS109 (DSM 4.2), both connected to gigabit ethernet and wireless lan.

The TV and DS are both on the same subnet and both have fixed IP addresses (192.168.0.222 and 192.168.0.225 respectively). Allshare is turned on but Media Server does not see the TV. However, I can ping the TV from the DS. I have two other computers on the same network and the TV shows them in its network list, but not the DS. I do not know of a way to ping from the TV but all all indications are the network is ok.

On the TV, with Allshare enabled, the device list on the TV just shows my router (192.168.0.0 and the PC's I have turned on). It does not show the DS (192.168.0.225) even though it is turned on all the time.

You have the IPs right and subnet mask also I take it. Do you have firewall enabled in DS that might be blocking media communications?

I have no other ideas really, if all else fail in situations like that I do the restart dance. Turn off and on everything that can both hardware (tv, ds) and software (media server; stop/start, reinstall if need be), reset everything (media server device list for example), use logging where possible (media server has Diagnose, dms.dmslog is a gz file).

Powering everything off and then on worked! The TV now sees my DS and everything on it. Thanks for that last suggestion.
