DS212+ 2 Drives Question

Postby grazzt » Thu Apr 05, 2012 3:23 am

Now that I have 2 x 2 TB for my system, I want to set it up. I have 1 setup with the SYN Hybrid Raid without data protection and unsure what/how to do the 2nd drive. I did not want to have a RAID system. I just want to periodically back up the 1st drive to the 2nd drive. So would I create a 2nd volume and have them as independent drives?

Advice needed. Thanks

Hi

SHR on a 2 bay DS is the same as RAID 1.

So you want to set it up as 2 basic disk's and then you can setup 2 volume's

Or you can setup a 2nd SHR volume (doesnt matter if you choose basic or SHR as long as you select only 1 HD for the volume). So just do the same again: insert 2nd HD and create a new volume the same way as for the first HD.

Thanks for the feedback. Is there a way to convert Disk 1 to a basic volume without wiping everything out? If not I can copy everything from Disk 1 to 2 then change Disk 1 and copy everything back.

No you cant convert it - what should it be good for?
Yes of course the copy scenario will work.

Boy, I am real noob at this. I have looked everywhere, but how do I copy everything from Drive 1 to drive 2?

I just want to use Drive 1 as the primary and drive 2 as the back up. I can't even figure out how to map to the other drive. Geez
