All,

I have been having a similar issue with Yahoo and been researching the issue. It seems that these services block mail coming from residential IPs. There are third party SMTP providers such as AuthSMTP (first one that came up on Google but not the one I've been looking at) that will act as an SMTP relay and solve this issue. Haven't tried it myself, but that's what its looking like I will need to do.

Hope this helps.

This is very strange.....

Both my friend and I own a DS212+, we heave the same ISP ( and router ) and use the same firewall ( ESET Smart Security )
However his DS sends notifications with Gmail, and mine doesn't !!
We both have the same DSM software.......I'm puzzled and frustrated.

I am already in contact with Synology, but so far no solution.

Very very very very strange......

I can't understand how people can say the problem is solved without even explaining anything or giving a solution. Guess in the end it doesn't work for them neither.
Still having problem here, no clue at all.

I'm in contact with Synology too since 3 weeks about this problem.

Good news this morning, they finally replicated this issue !

And so they wrote : "I will consult the issue again with developers for further solution"

So, we have to wait for a new update. :D

Some tips:
  • Make sure that you specify your complete email adres as username
  • When you have enabled 2 factor authentication that you generate a password for your diskstation

The problem seems solved with the DSM 4.0-2219
The notifications mails works again with my gmail account configured during the update from DSM 3.2 to DSM 4.0.

For some reason, Gmail seems to not send you email you've sent. I'm on a number of mailing lists where folks posting to the list don't get a copy of what they sent. You could test this.
DS 1512+ w/3GB, 5 x 3TB Seagate ST3000DM001 8.2TB RAID 6, half files/half Time Machine.
Icy Dock MB559U3S-1SB enclosure w/4TB Hitachi UltraStar via USB 3 for files backup

can't send any single mail as smtp gmail notification...temporily i'm using internal mail server DS provide instead of gmail..The internal mail server works fine...

Had the same issue up till now. In the log files of the diskstation it mentions it couldn't login in or connect to smtp, and google replies with the following reference:

https://support.google.com/mail/bin/ans ... swer=78754

I did the "Clearing the CAPTCHA" , logged in with the same account I use for notification on the NAS, and it said I had to login with the client within 10 minutes. I tried resending a test message from within diskstation and voila, it worked again!

So it seems some sort of google security feature. Perhaps in some update of Synology it connected to your smtp server to often and google asking for captcha security code everytime it tries to connect. Either way, this solved it for me so have a try if you have the same

cheers

Hi!

I have the same issue, and a simple workaround solved my problem with notifications using a Gmail account: change the FQDN address of SMTP (smtp.gmail.com) for the IP address (in my case I'm using 74.125.130.108).

Now is waiting for a solution by Synology Tech Support.

Regards,

PS.: And yes, I have a DNS Server configured in my DS412+ ;)

I just got a new DS411 +II and had the same 535 5.7.1 errors.

The key for me is that I use Google 2-factor authentication, so yes YOU NEED AN APPLICATION-SPECIFIC PASSWORD.

After I did this, it worked no problem.

server: smtp.gmail.com
port: 465

SMTP Authentication:
Username: _______@gmail.com spelled out
Password: (Google-provided 2-factor authentication password).

Did a Test Message, and worked no problem.
