Blue light flashing after upgrade to 4.0-2198

Postby esanjeev » Tue Mar 13, 2012 1:38 am

I started the upgrade in the morning and left for work. Now after more than 12 hours, the blue light is flashing. The assistant shows status as 'Starting services'. Any ideas if something is drastically wrong? What could be the way out?
Thanks in advance.

Do you have IPKG/optware installed?
If not, does the blue LED stops blinking if you boot the NAS with all disks unplugged?

Against my better nature I decided to upgrade to the latest and greatest version. Now it's been 2 hours and my ds411j will not get out of the "blinking blue light" cycle. What am I suppose to do?

If the LED of the HD are flashing and there are activities on the HD, just be patient, it may be performing a consistency check, which may take several hours or even more.

Hey there,

I have upgraded my DS-108j too last night to hte latest version, around 11 pm, and it has the same symptoms. It has not yet started. I can ping it through my local network and even through the public ip but the web interface does not respond...

Last time I checked it through the assistant, it was verifying someting related to the quota, as far as I remember.

I'll keep checking during the day. Fingers crossed...

Hi everyone,

I've managed to put my synology back up again. I've been running out of time to deal with this situation and I had to backup all the data that I had there for security reasons. Anyway, I took the hdd out and put in an external case, connected it to my laptop (running Linux), formatted the first partition (around 2GB) and put it back inside Disksation. It booted :D and said that lost configurations. So, I've downloaded (again) the version it had before, the 4.0-2198, and loaded without a hassle.

Obviously it lost all the configurations, but hey, all the other 500GB data was intact 8)

It was a quick workaround, hope it helps anyone.

I also have a DS108J and I also had the same blinking light problem after the DSM4 upgrade. Synology Assistant could find the unit and I could ping it but I couldn't get access to the management console to log on.

Synology Assistant told me that it was 'checking quota'. It was doing this for about 9 hours (500Gb drive - come on, it simply can't take that long) before I restarted it. After about 15 minutes, it restarted and everything seems fine now.

Small moment of panic, but everything seems back to normal now!

I have this problem too on my DS212j.
It is blinking for almost 20 hours now :?
Is this still normal ?
The synology assistant mentions "Ready" (translated from Dutch "Gereed")
But I cant use the web interface login, nor connect any other way.

Does any one have the magic touch ?
