Re: Is there a DS2412+ coming soon? Maybe a 16 bay 12+ mode

Postby opentoe » Sun Mar 11, 2012 3:24 am

The DS2411 is $1500. I would only imagine a newer model being more expensive with the same amount of drive bays. Would it really be worth a minor CPU upgrade / memory boost? I bet they would want to sell a DS2412 for about $2000. That is loads of cash for an empty 12 bay box, right? I mean unless all of a sudden the DS2411's ALL drop in price SOON as the DS2412's come out or something. Who knows. I'm still new to this. Also, do these things EVER go on sale or drop in price? I'm still looking at an older model with a RETAIL price here. I don't get it?

Good news for the DS112. Since of yesterday I see it on several websites with the label "Coming Soon".

Google for Synology DS112... and you will find out your answer.
My previous answer from a couple of hours ago is deleted so I think someone was not happy what I found out.

The pricing of the DS2411+ has to stay away from the DS3611+ pricing, so not necessarily going to get more expensive. I think it will be a minor upgrade in CPU and abit of USB3.

They do go on sale, but not very often. They seem to hold their value well, and it's worth remembering you are paying not just for the hardware but all the software development that goes on.

Postby Lynetk » Fri Mar 16, 2012 2:18 pm

hi.

Im very much looking forward to the DS412+ to replace my DS408.

When can i expect this product to be available ?

I found the data sheet PDF floating around, so if thats genuine it must be pretty close to release ?
Also synology list the processor used in the DS412+ on this webpage (http://forum.synology.com/wiki/index.ph ... y_NAS_have)

DS412+ Intel Atom D2700 Dualcore (2C/4T) 2.13GHz x86 Processor 64-bit@DDR3, 1GB of RAM

Hi guys,

I'm happy to announce that I have two DS-112 units from today :)

To all of you, who can't wait to buy this model I can say one word: wait!

There is no DSM4 for DS-112! My units are delivered with DSM 3.2!

So if you don't want to be mad and yelling, wait for official support.

ps. I have this unit here, but they still didn't update synology.com products section.

ps2. there is no 512MB RAM, just 256MB + CPU 1,6GHz

I have a 412+ for a week. Here are the specs:
http://www.ccidistribution.co.uk/datash ... et_enu.pdf

It comes with DSM v3.2-2027 and I am waiting for the official release to update it to DSM 4.

Feel free to ask me whatever you want.

What did you pay for it? The synology pricing seems all nutty.

$725 for the new 4 bay? $800 for a 5 bay 1512 $1000 for the 8 bay 1812

They are a little high for what they are. Also I noticed that Synology is a CHinese company but there is no mention of this on the Synology home page about us, trying ot make people believe that they are based in the United States?

I live in Europe, so the prices are more nutty!
In Amazon.co.uk DS412+ costs 559 Pounds, about 883$!

DS112

Postby TheLastMan » Mon Mar 19, 2012 7:13 pm

Looking at the specification it seems almost identical to the 111. The same processor at 1.6ghz, and 256mb RAM. The only positive difference I can see is USB3 rather than USB2 ports.

Other than that it is 8mm wider and a rather bland design. I much prefer the look of the 111. As I have yet to plug anything at all into the USB ports of my 107+ I think I will wait until the price of the 111 comes down before replacing it.

Still no fpu :( Currently you don't get one until you are prepared to lay out around £380 for the 712.
DS111 with Seagate 2TB drive running 24/7 since March 2012.
Used mainly as SqueezeCenter server but also to back up documents and photographs.

Can Synology please let me know if a DS2412 is coming?

Postby opentoe » Tue Mar 20, 2012 7:16 am

It is towards the end of March already and have no word if there will be a replacement for the DS2411. Unless the DS3612 was suppose to do all that at a MUCH higher price point.

Does it matter in the globalized economy? Apple makes their iPhones in China, but it's advertised a product of the United States? Or, many American and Japanese cars are manufactured in Canada.

I think you need to go back and read. It does not matter where it is made, I already own many Chinese things. However they are hiding the fact on their website by making it appear US based. Lying is the thing that I am not comfortable with. I buy stuff from China on ebay, but if they mark the item as 'Gift' to avoid US Import taxes that we all pay, then they too get a negative.
