+1 Syncing of multiple folders
+1 Choosing where your folder is on the Synology

Also no limit to users on DS210j and similar models.

Synology confirmed this on Facebook yesterday. Cloudstation does not offer any encryption. :(

I think Synology should definitively put much more effort into security. I know it's easier to present slides with new features like CloudStation (everybody nowadays must have a cloud ;) ) but I would prefer they now concentrate on bug fixing and necessary improvements than on creating yet another nice feature which misses the basics and does not offer support for all operating systems.
Concerning Mac support: I'm still waiting for that, but if it does not include encryption I'd rather wait a bit longer, I don't want a nice car with neither belts nor airbags :(

Having set up cloud station to sync my "Desktop" and "My Documents" folder between my laptop and desktop, would be great if there was a way to limit the amount of I/O cloud station uses.

Just to boot into Windows, client-win.exe uses about 2GB of network bandwidth and 6GB of disk. This really slows down the computer. This gets much worse if the two computers get far out of sync, I typically have to disable sync to keep my computer from trashing the drive while I work and let it sync after work hours only.

Overall, great product!!!

Can you actually sync multiple folders!?

+ Encryption

In addition I would like to see more bandwidth control methods:
- add option to toggle between never, automatically sync only on LAN, LAN+WLAN or always
- add manual sync option (for "never")
- detect slow speed links and postpone data sync if file would take more than a configurable time

I'd love a "Copy Public Link" function as well to allow external un-authenticated user access to specific files.

Encryption of the transfer and possibility to use the VPN functionality of DSM 4.
One could initiate a VPN tunnel from its PC and the Synology would complete the tunnel. Then the Cloud Station would sync the folder(s) through the tunnel exclusively.

Cloud Station to sync two Synology servers

Postby marco.pozzi » Mon Mar 26, 2012 10:15 pm

Hi all,
I'd like to sync two (or more) Synology servers. Is this possible with Cloud Station package? If not, it could be an interesting feature to develop.

Thanks,

Sort of.

Set up a "sync folder on your drive" create a my documents folder inside it, than change your my documents to point to this folder.

For desktop, log in as a different user, create a new desktop folder inside this synced folder, copy the content of your existing desktop folder, delete the old folder and create a junction to this new folder (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysi ... s/bb896768, fantastic tool).

If you search of moving your "documents settings" folder to a new drive, will give you more details.

Hope this helps.

Keep in mind, keep it small, otherwise the sync will bog down your PC!!!

This is precisely the question I had as well. I've been using Microsoft Live Mesh between a home server and an office server, which works well when it's working, but lately it has developed issues. I just bought a DS212+, and was thinking I could take that to the office and buy a DS412+ for the house. The two DiskStations could then sync with each other (I don't need the home videos / music / etc at the office) reliably, and I'm in business....
