Postby backmailingbox » Thu Mar 15, 2012 3:13 pm

hi, I have dynamic IP address at home from my provider. I want to use my NAS DS212 at home with my domain own for example: "example.net". I have an account in no-ip.com as dyn dns service. but I need tu use address as "example.no-ip.org". Is there any ddns provider which provides FREE (not paid) service also for my own domain?

Ok, but how do you set up the DS when it doesn't show in the list among the service providers?
My list only includes:
    Freedns.org
    zoneedit.com
    dnspod.com
    changeip.com
    dynamic do!.jp
    selfhost.de
    3322.com
    no-ip.com
    two-dns.de
    dyndns.com
I used to use dyndns.com before but they dropped all the free services up to just resently... I have set up a new account @ afraid.org but I cant figure out how to setup the dyndns in the DS.

I'm not quite sure but at http://freedns.afraid.org/scripts/freedns.clients.php there's different clients for updating IP.

This is from Windows/UNIX clients
Code: Select all
lastip2.php
Client Requirement: PHP
This client will not generate any internet traffic until your IP changes, and checks for a IP change every 5 seconds, fast and efficient.

There is a lot of other clients on there too but I haven't got any experience with FreeDNS or the clients.

I've got a solution that works for me:
1) Register a dyndns-account (or similar). Configure your router to update it (most recent routers have this functionality).
2) Register your domain-name. Set the domain-type as CNAME and set it's address to your dyndns-website.

Done! When you're surfing to your own domain you're actually surfing to your dyndns-site. It works fine!

You can also try ZoneEdit - although I found the set up process really confusing.
