Suggest a basic cam to try it out

Postby AussieGeek » Thu Mar 15, 2012 4:46 am

I would like to try out surveillance station. I have never used webcams or surveillance so would like something basic to try it out. I will just get a single camera to set up and experiment with for now. In a few months we will be moving into a new house, so if I feel that I can understand it, manage it and use it I will get more/better cameras then.

Hi

I use a TrendNet TV-IP110W, works fine no problems, just remember there's only licences for one camera with your DS, so why not get a camera with high resolution, and all the stuff you need, and then chose one from the "Surveillance Station IP camera Support List" http://www.synology.com/support/camera.php?lang=enu

I use one of these at the moment:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00432J56G/ref=oh_o01_s00_i00_details

Set it up using a cable, then run it on my wifi. Pan and tilt not that accurate over wifi due to lag, but it works. Night view is very clear, I'm very impressed with it. Connected to my DS211j, on permanent record.

Hi DK63,

Can you confirm the camera B00432J56G can be used with the synology package "Surveillance Station" or did you mean something else by "Connected to your DS211j" ?

I agree with Mike that buy a proper IP camera that you can afford, you will save more money in the end. I bought foscams before and when I bought a proper IP camera (at least megapixel, with IR filter, wide IR coverage), I threw out my foscams :D
