I broke the golden rule - if it ain't broke don't fix it. I updated to DSM 4.0 today and now the Synology media server is not visible on my network. iPad, bluray player and PS3 all with synology media server absent - anybody help please ? Normal file access and connectivity is all in place.

Did you install/run media server on your Synology NAS? You need to do this after updating to 4.0.
Did you enable access in firewall rules?
If you use UPNP, did you enable it?
DS409+ DSM 4.0 - 4x 2TBdisks, running RAID5 (4x Samsung HD203WI)
DS211+ DSM4.0 - 2x 1.5TBdisks RAID1
DMA (Digital Media Adapter) Boxee Box.
Running Logitech Squeezebox Server for SQ Duet, SQ Radio and SQ Boom.
Some isp Sagem router.

Try set your firewall to "allow all" and see if that solves it.
If it does, check if you have enabled the following rule:
Looking in Synology NAS firewall: UPnP 55900-55910
DS409+ DSM 4.0 - 4x 2TBdisks, running RAID5 (4x Samsung HD203WI)
DS211+ DSM4.0 - 2x 1.5TBdisks RAID1
DMA (Digital Media Adapter) Boxee Box.
Running Logitech Squeezebox Server for SQ Duet, SQ Radio and SQ Boom.
Some isp Sagem router.

had the same problem, but for me it helped by open these ports(in media server's firewall):
DLNS/UPnP-mediacerver port 1900 UDP port
DLNS/UPnP-mediacerver port 15002,50001 UDP port
nothing happened when I tried 55900-55910 ports

Applying the DSM 4.0 update takes the ticks out of DLNA/uPNP media server boxes in the NAS Firewall settings, go into control panel then firewall, create, tick both DLNA entries, apply and save it will work!

Hi knaldhatte I'm having the exact same issue as you described. With it popping up and then disappearing. Did you manage to fix the problem?
Cheers
