phpBB3 - performance issues

Postby Reucht » Wed Mar 07, 2012 5:21 pm

Hello,

I searched the forum for clues on how to remedy this problem, but haven't found anything useful. Just people saying they have the same issue as me on different kinds of web-services (that involve php: Joomla, WordPress, etc..).

I have a small forum running atm, 1 topic, 3 forums, 1 user (so very small), yet every time I load a page it takes somewhere between 3-20 seconds before the page shows.

- It can't be my connection, since it's the same on my gbit connection at home as it is at work (resource control confirms this).
- Afaik, it can't be the CPU since the load never passes beyond 30%, same goes for RAM.
- It can't be a resource hogging other application since I stopped all services on my box.

Anyone has some suggestions? Some tweaks?

Any information would be helpful :)

I also have a phpBB3 forum that is not much larger than yours and mine loads instantly on my LAN.
Check to see if "Enable PHP Cache" is checked on the php tab of the web services item in the Diskstation's control panel.
You can also try experimenting with the load settings in the phpBB admin control panel. Look under Board features and Load Settings.
Also, you can try enabling Gzip compression under Server Settings. Purging the cache may also help.

Hey crhiles,

Thanks for the reply. PHP caching is enabled on the web services, the other settings I just disabled them all and I have to say it did make a difference! Another question, how do I purge the cache? Just delete all files in the /volume1/web/cache folder?

I'll play with it a bit, but thanks for the info! What kind of box are you using? I'm using a DS411j and people told me the CPU might be the problem.

Thanks :)

To purge the cache, login to the admin control panel and right in the middle of the page under Resynchronise or reset statistics at the bottom is Purge cache. Just click the Run Now button.
I am running a DS211.
