Notifications via Gmail doesn't work

Postby lbates35406 » Mon Nov 14, 2011 9:50 pm

Notification sending via Gmail's smtp server doesn't work.

SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com
SMTP port: 587 (also tried 465 but it doesn't work either)
Secure connection (SSL/TLS) is required: Yes (checked)
Authentication required: Yes (checked)
Username: <entered my gmail address here>
Password: <entered my gmail password heree>
Primary email: <entered destination email here>

I've used another smtp server that does work, but no combination of settings works for Gmail and IMHO it should. I use this Gmail account to get notifications from other software (StorageCraft ShadowProtect and ImageManager) and they work just perfectly. BTW- I'm using latest update (1944) on DS111 unit, but it didn't work with two earlier versions either.

I have the same problem. I have the same settings as the first reply. The error I get in the log is "Failed to send email. (Failed to resolve host address).
I'm running DSM 3.2-1955

I'd love some help on this.

Hi, what do you mean with update to "8.3"? Because I've the same problem with 4.0-2198 and the email notification (german GMX account).

It does not work again....
There's something strange about this problem, if I use another gmail account it works, but not with the account I was using before the 4.0 update.

Hello,

maybe someone else helps this information, for me it hasn't:

Hi ,

Thank you for your inquiry.

For Mail Notification issues may we suggest you try the following:

1) Disable email notifications, reboot DS, and then re-enable it.
2) Try re-setting up the email notifications page [Control Panel > Notifications > Email]
3) You may wish to check that the settings in "Advanced" tab are correct.

For more info on the setup, please refer to our Help located on the upper right hand corner of this page.

Things to note:
About SMTP server's domain name:

The SMTP server can be an IP address or a domain name. If it is a domain name, please make sure a valid DNS server IP has been entered at Main Menu > Control Panel > Network, and make sure the server is on the Internet.
About SMTP server's authentication:

If your SMTP server requires authentication, follow the steps below.

Tick the Authentication required checkbox.
Enter your SMTP username.
Enter your SMTP password, and enter it again for confirmation.

[...]

Best regards,

Alexander Wong

Every time I get the syslog message: "Failed to send email. (535 5.7.0 Incorrect username or password {mp$NUMBER})."
This isn't related (at least for me) to the domain-name or settings. I've tried it also with a defined DNS server or explicit SMTP-IP...no test mail will be send.
