The new DS3612xs

Postby wattacetti » Tue Feb 21, 2012 6:20 pm

So I've just noticed that the DS3612xs has been formally acknowledged and that its specs page is up for review.

Am I correct in reading that the sole hardware improvement brought forward by the 2012 variant is the ability to upgrade onboard RAM to less than the original model?

The specific CPU isn't being listed so just based on specs (and with URLs for confirmation),

DS3611xs Memory : DDR3 2GB ECC RAM (Expandable, up to 8GB)

http://www.synology.com/products/spec.php?product_name=DS3611xs&lang=us#p_submenu

DS3612xs Memory : DDR3 2GB ECC RAM (Expandable, up to 6GB)

http://www.synology.com/products/spec.php?product_name=DS3612xs&lang=enu#p_submenu

No USB 3.0, no eSATA, no performance improvement, no power improvement. Perhaps an improvement in SRP? As in decrease?

From what I can read from the description, the DS3612xs and the RS3412RPxs have a fanless CPU cooler, removing a single point of failure and improving the reliability of the system.
