Hey guys I have a GSM7224 (V1) and a DS1511+. I have LACP working fine with one exception: When I try to connect to the NAS through my Juniper firewall (VPN) I can't connect to any of the shares and it times out while trying. I also can't pull up the web gui over the VPN tunnel. It basically sounds like the same problems you guys are describing. I can hit everything else at home switches, AP, etc, even my old NAS (Netgear NV+).

The problem could be Synology <-> Netgear related. I own a Dell managed switch, when I get some time I'll try to test with it to see if I have better results. In the meantime does anyone have any ideas of anything to try?

Can you still log in to the DS through http? I think my settings were the same ,I will try again sometime when I get bored.

I only have a Netgear GS108T, but was successful in getting it working with link aggregation.

This is from the LAG Configuration page:

Lag Name: NAS
Lag ID: 1
Link Trap: Disable
Admin Mode: Enable
STP Mode: Disable
LAG Type: LACP
Active Ports: g5g4
LAG state: Link Up

I also have my desktop setup with LAG and it is working as well. My only concern is that DS shows 1000, FULL DUPLEX, MTU 9000. Hopefully since LAG is working, that means I'm truly receiving 2Gb like my desktop is showing for its team.

Yes, I can log in fine. Link aggregation works perfectly in my set up. It's a shame it took 9 months for me to get it working, as there were no instructions.

What link speed does it show in DSM for your link aggreation network? Mine shows 1000, full Duplex, 9000 MTU.

Mine shows 1000, Full Duplex, 1500 MTU, for both LAN 1 and 2.

Hi Guys,

I have a DS1511+ with a NetGear GS748T (v4) switch. I was able to select the 2 ports (47+48) and add them to LAG1 (with LACP), however it shows me that the LAG1 link is "down", but I am still able to access my NAS through the \\NAS_NAME or the web interface.

How can I test/know if the link aggregation is properly configured and working? When I log to DSM and go to network, I enabled the DHCP and I don't see if LAG or LACP is enabled on the NAS..?

Thanks

Ok, for anyone reading this post and having the same problem as me: I found the problem. I needed to configure the NAS to be in LAG mode. To do so: Control Panel --> Network --> Network Interface --> CREATE.

This create button will bond LAN1 and LAN2. That's it.

I am not entirely sure how to TEST that this is working, but at least in my switch I see the bonded link as up, and I can only ping one of the IPs for my NAS, so I am pretty sure this is working as it is supposed.

Thanks.

Only problem with a netgear 7248V1 switch is that nobody seems to know if LACP is running in active or passive mode. V1 CLI doesn't have the option to hard code it active. V2 does. The Synology boxes only run in active lacp mode. Even though the synology unit will not give you an error you can still be running in passive mode. This still has me baffled and most of the internet is clueless as to answers about this.

As this is already a pretty old conversation, I'd like to know if there is a list of devices that can do link aggregation properly (as Synology likes it), and that is up to date?
I'm willing to buy a switch for our new house with at least 12 or 20 connections in it.

Any help is welcome.

Hi,

I had asked that specific question to Synology's support department, and their answer was as follow:

"Link aggregation requires that the switch support active mode 802.3ad LACP"

After shopping around (over a year ago), I found that the cheapest option that would satisfy this criterion was NetGear GS748T (or other similar models with less ports) and it did work. The other switches from other brands seemed A LOT more expensive.
