Off site IP CAM

Postby compspider » Sun Feb 26, 2012 1:39 pm

Hello there Synology owners and fans

My question:

I have a AXIS M1011 cam and it is off site, meaning that the cam is in another office, across town.
No VPN connection or anything. However i can get to the cam it is online.
Port is forwarded to 81.

I can access the cam over the internet using the static http://<IP>:81/
Now the cam does not record to anywhere, i would like it to record to my Synology ?!
Is this possible.

WAN recording ? Even viewing ?

Thank you for all your help.
I have a DS-209+

Yes you can add remote cams to Surveillance Station (as long as the model is supported)

Thank you for your quick reply.
It is on the list of supported cams
however, it does not give me a error once i add it , enter the correct port and so it adds it but then states it is disconnected. Nothing about the port or ip going wrong.

I don't understand

am i entering something incorrect ?

What should i make sure of.
Router port is forwarded and all

Similar behavior with an off-site Vivotek (supported).

Latest DSM 4, cam works fine on LAN with surveillance station, but not when moved off-site.

Connection setup is ok, IP, port, user, pasword ...

The strange part is, in the Camera Management part I can TEST the connection and get the actual picture, so the setup is 100% OK.
However, once saved it goes to disconnected.

Any hints or is this a bug?

It's not a bug. When you use MPEG-4 or H.264 you have to port forward the rtsp port on the router. By default the port for Axis cameraS is 554. This is where the synology connects to process the stream.

I catually received notice about that from Support, although the ISP blocked port 554, so if that is the case, you can use another port, I used 5554 and the Syn picks it up. Works flawless now!
