First check the required libraries are accessible.
Find the SynologyAssistant binary (it's a .bin file), and use ldd command, e.g.:
"ldd /usr/local/SynologyAssistant/SynologyAssistant.bin"
and see if there is any "not found" in the output.
Maybe it's an issue with 32 vs 64 bit version libraries.

Many thanks for the reply. My posts are currently being vetted as a new poster, not sure if the last one has been lost as it's not appeared in about 20 hours. So here again, and apologies if this becomes a repeat.

Yes, probably you need 32 bit versions of at least of libqwt-dev and something for the Qt stuff.
Check e.g. on packages.debian.org where the missing libraries are.

Thanks for the help. Can you tell me what precisely I need?
I have searched using
apt-cache search and also here
http://packages.debian.org/stable/allpackagesbut not been able to find the missing 32bit versions of
libqwt.so.5 => not found
libQtGui.so.4 => not found
libQtNetwork.so.4 => not found
libQtCore.so.4 => not found
Not quite sure what to do next?
Thanks
