I am having a similar problem in that I try to mount a CIFS share hosted on a windows 2008 R2 server, but each time I try to mount the share I get the "Failed to connect to the remote folder" error message. It is getting to the server, because if I enter an invalid account name or password, I get a different error message, is there some other setting that needs to be configured on the windows machine?
Addendum: I should also point out that the windows server on which the share is hosted is part of a windows domain. I just tried this afternoon to mount a share hosted on a windows XP Home machine with no user access rights and part of a workgroup rather than the domain, this mounted fine on the DS1010+, but I still can't mount a share on the 2008 R2 server, even if I replace the server name with an IP address. The user credentials are correct and I've tried the user name both with and without the domain prefix also. If anybody knows how to resolve this I would be very grateful for any assistance.
Thanks in advance.
