How does these work? Are all data lost on my drives? A patch for DS212 would perhaps be interesting.

These work by eiditing the patch file then recalculating the checksum.
These are installable patch files, all you need to do is goto DSM update. no CLI job!
Ive tested the DS410, I was also requested to make a patch for another synology user (DS411 Slim) which he has confirmed as working.
Although i can't guarantee you won't lose your data, I've not had any complaints of data loss in the few years I've been building downgrade patches.
I can make you a DS212 patch if you desire, although can't test it as i only have DS410, DS209+ CS407, DS110j, DS409 Slim, USB station 2, & 2 x DS101G+'s that i've been flashing/testing for the last few years.

Any risks involved with a possible patch except for possibility of losing data? No risks of "bricking" the unit?

Nope,
Basically it follows the same method of how an upgrade works.

Sounds interesting, if you have the time, please make a DS212 patch.

Any chance could provide a DS710 version please.
Reason being, I'd like to try streaming with a 3.2 verion & compare as the V4 streaming keeps having like millisecond pauses in video, which when local doesnt do, so its definitely when streamed & the router is only in next room across hall with full signal, so cant be that either.
Question, is there any known issues downgrading then upgrading again to V4, with your methods, I would assume not as its just a clean upgrade as you mention.
Thanks in advance.

Hi. I am experiencing really slow transfer speeds on Gigabit network on my DS211j after upgrading to DSM 4.0 beta, any chance of a downgrade patch to 3.2.
It would be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks

Everything i use is preserved, accounts. audio station playlist(s) made in Audio staion, DL station is uneffected, surveillance station etc.
I've not heard of any problems with the downgrades i provide.
I believe IPKG etc is deleted, but this happens with a standard upgrade sometimes.
I've just got home, give me 10 mins i'll do the 212 and 211j for the other guy!

Yea, sorry that's the case presently! since i dont have an X86 unit I'm unable to help.
I had a look 'briefly' 5 mins or so in an X86 FW, it seems from what i can see they are two checksums.. Which i guess i could calculate both.
But not having a unit for trial and error. i wouldn't like to be held responsable for a firmware problems with could lead to a device been bricked.
