Definitive Solution to Syncing Media?

Postby Nutmeg » Wed Jan 25, 2012 5:26 am

Dear Sirs,
What is your definitive solution to syncing media for the following scenario?

Situation: 3 Laptops with separate media libraries and playlists (mostly music and movies) stored locally (on the laptop)
Target Hardware: DS712
Goal:
i. media stored locally (on laptop) in addition to the target
ii. 3 Separate media directories (1 for each laptop/library) on the target
iii. all adds/deletes/edits are made locally (on respective computers) and synced to the users area on the target
iv. ability to see each others libraries, but not necessarily sync (or edit) them from separate computers
v. ability to play each others libraries using a remote app to Airplay

I recognize that there may be a high duplication factor under this scenario, but i don't particularly care in this case.

Thank you in advance for any guidance that you may offer.

If you're running Windows machines, consider using the free Microsoft Synctoy2 software. I'm assuming you can readily access the DS using explorer just like you would look at your local drive. Install Synctoy on each machine and set up the folders you want to sync and the way in which you want them to sync. It's very simple to set up. Each user syncs to their own folders on the DS and DS user/folder privileges get set so that the other users can read/write as necessary.

I don't have any experience with Airplay.
