Seagate ST33000651AS, 3TB SATA3, in DS1511+ working flawlessly for 6 months yet. tested as RAID0, RAID1 and RAID5. the disk temperatures after a few hours of heavy load (RAID5) do not exceed 43C!

I'm considering buying ST33000651AS or ST33000650NS Enterprise Edition (which is more expensive) for my DS1010+ as RAID5. So I would like to know what value Load Cycle Count is on these disks.

I'm considering the Hitachi Ultrastar A7K3000 HUA723020ALA640 (2TB) drives for a DS411+II. It's not on the compatibility list yet. Will it work and when will it be on the compatibility list?

FYI, my DS211j works fine with 2 Hitatchi HDS5C3020ALA632 2TB drives (Serial number : ML0220F30TB29D, Firmware Version : ML60A580) in a RAID 1 configuration.

anyone knows if WD30EURS is can be used with DS1511+?
intend to get 4 sets WD30EURS to be used with 1 set WD30EZRX for raid 5.
in the compatibility chart, there is only WD20EURS.

thanks.

Okay, I read on the compatible hard drive list what the "desktop" and "enterprise" classes mean. And when I searched Google for one of the listed Surveillance class drives, I found that was meant for digital surveillance recording.

So what if I want to use my NAS (DS211J) for both desktop and surveillance? Store data (movies, music, documents, whatever), and record from my video cameras?

hello guys.
i'm an owner of a ds2411+.
I'll install 6 hard drives: western digital 2TB WD20EARS.

Reading the compatible Synology's webpage i understand that i have first to install a previous firmware:

"To use this hard drive, we suggest that you reinstall the system with DSM 2.2-0965 or onward first, then reformat the HDD to adopt the WD Advanced Format Technology."

After that i could install the last firmware.

Now i'm wondering, what it will happen if in the next 8 months i'll buy 2 more WD20EARS...? Do i have still to to go back to 2.2-0965 and reformat all the 8 hard drives? (so it means...every time i want to install new hard drive do i have first to make a backup?)

Postby jcthorne » Sat Mar 03, 2012 5:05 pm

Anyone have experience with the new 4TB Hitachi SATA drives in a Synology NAS? 1511 compatibility?

Any pros or cons to this drive or its family?

4tb hitachi drive question.

My DS 1812 is on the way. I have Hitachi 4tb 7200rpm drives waiting to populate it. I noticed on the compatibility list the 0S03363 is listed as good. But the 0S03355 that i have is not listed at all. I think my 3355's might just be the retail boxed versions of the 3363, but i cannot find this online to confirm. Can anyone put my mind at ease?

Thanks!
