enable https on Synology DS411+II

Postby cschrader » Sat Jan 07, 2012 4:16 am

I have recently setup my DS411+II and am now trying to get the https versions of common web pages built in to work. I have created a self-signed certificate using the installed OpenSSL on my DS, have imported the certificate and private key into my DS as well through the Control Panel/Web Services/"HTTP Service" Tab/Checked box "Enable HTTPS connection for web services". I then imported my server key and certificate into the DS by clicking the "Import Certificate" button on the same page. Both certificates imported without error.

From my browser (Tried with IE9, Safari, and Chrome) I have tried to reach https:/192.168.1.xxx:5001 (where xxx is the 4th octet of my internal IP of my DS) to open the DSM admin page, but am receiving page not found errors. No certificate errors. I did import the certificate into all three browsers and try again with the exact same results. I tried again at port 7001 (Filestation https site I believe) with the same results. I have since tried removing the public key cert from all browsers just to see if it would throw a cert error with the same results. It appears that my DS does not have the https versions of the pages enabled at this time.

I did reboot my DS (through SSH CLI using reboot command) after installing the certificates through the DSM console. I setup a continuous ping against my DS and watched it go down and come back up. additionally I have tried re-importing the certificates in the DSM with the same results. I have recreated all certs from scratch, reimported them and again, same results.

There are no firewalls between me and the DS, I am doing this all on my local home network at this point. I did notice that after importing the certs through Web Services console that the import certificate page doesn't seem to show any certificate installed, but as this is just the "uploader" for the certificate I don't know that it does show the certificate once it is installed there.

Can anyone give me any pointers as to what I may be missing. I am hesitant to call "bug" because I am so new to this product. I have many years IT experience, have used OpenSSL in the past, am fairly fluent in Linux CLI and don't believe I have any problems with the certificates. It really "feels" like I'm missing something to enable the https versions of the Synology DSM Admin or Filestation pages...

Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciate!

Thanks.

Did you have a look at this?
It describes how yo can test the certificate and also how you can solve when a certificate isn't woking.
Synology DS-209 | DSM 4.1-2668 | 2 x WD20EARS (RAID1) (Time Backup | PhpMyAdmin | PhpLdapAdmin | PhpPgAdmin | Mailstation 2 | Svn | Directory server | Syslog server)
  • USB Conceptronic CHD3SU | WD20EARS (Ext-4)
Synology DS-209 | DSM 4.2-3202 | 2 x WD5000AAKS (RAID0) (syslog server)
  • USB Conceptronic CHD3NET | WD5000AAVS (Ext-4)
Corruption wears infinite disguises.

Port 5001 is https address for DSM:
Control Panel > DSM Settings > Http services, enable Https
DS111 (DSM 4.2) and DS109 (DSM 4.2), both connected to gigabit ethernet and wireless lan.
