How to import existing Apple iCal calendar events

Postby Twistan » Sat Dec 17, 2011 5:28 am

Hello,
I have been struggling for days with the problem of transfering events from an existing Apple iCal calendar to the disk station.

First the hardware/software:
DS 3.2 1944

Apple Test machines:
1) Mac Mini Server 10.6.8., iCal v4
2) MacBook Pro 10.7.2, iCal v5

What DOES work :
I have created a shared CalDAV calendar named test cal on the DS, path /calendar/testcal
I can connect to this calendar from both machines.
Events created on the MacBook Pro show up in the Mac Mini's calendar and vice versa.
So, all settings (privileges and port forwarding) appear to be correct.

What DOES NOT work:
I have not succeeded in transferring the events of an existing calendar to the shared calendar on the DS.
I tried to export the existing local calendar, and to import the .ics file into the shared calendar. I observed that approx. 3000 .ics files were created on the DS but the events were not visible in the other machine's calendar.

I also tried to copy the .ics calendar file directly to /calendar/testcal but that did not work either, as expected because the CalDAV server uses special file names.

Does anybody have the solution ?

I Have the same problem...

I tried importing an existing .ics file in a Caldav account (Synology DS411, FW 3.2 1944) with Lightning (Thunderbird Add-on) but it is impossible due to errors...
With iCal, it's shows no errors but if you check the CalDav, only a few events were imported...

Hello,
Synology Tech Support have advised today:

"We have acknowledged the issue.
The fix is included in newer DSM which is currently under a developmental stage. I will be sure to sure when I have more news. Kindly stay tune."

We just have to be patient and wait. I am glad that they are going to fix the issue. Apple can take a leaf out of their book.

Twistan,

If I understand correctly, will this fix also address the way the diskstation caldav works with newly transferred .ics files that are not created via caldav processes?

If so, I think that fix will also help me with my issue here - viewtopic.php?f=164&t=45011

Is that correct?

Hi,,
although I am NOT from Synology's Tech Support, just a user like you, I would interpret their announcement in this way.
I do not understand why there are not many more user reports like ours, unless 99.99 % of all CalDAV users start with a fresh calendar.

Any luck solving this yet? Have you tried the new DSM4 beta?
