Maximum number of network backup tasks?

Postby AlainNissen » Sat Nov 05, 2011 2:40 pm

Hi,

On my DS410, I'm trying to create a second network task with TimeBackup, but the "network backup" option is not available anymore. The following message appears as a pop-up while moving my mouse pointer over the (unavailable) network backup option:
"The number of network backup tasks exceeds system limitations"

Time Backup release notes (http://www.synology.com/releaseNote_enu ... ackup2.php) mention a limit of 4 backup tasks for a DS410, but I see no specific limit about the number of network backup tasks.

Has somebody ever experienced the same case? any solution/workaround available?
Thanks for any tip about this case.

Best regards,

-Alain

I forgot to mention that my DS410 is running DSM 3.2-1944 and TimeBackup 1.1-1922.

Same here. I have a brand new 212+ which should also allow 4 sessions, but I can only configure 2.
I have opened a case with Synology, but no solution yet.

Afaik there is only ONE network backup task allowed in the "Time backup" package. I've read that some time ago when they announced the new "network backup" support. I tried to find the text but I'm afraid I couldn't so you have to trust me in this one. ;)

Sorry, I don't think that is right. The number depends on the model of the DiskStation. The thread opener has opened the right document. For his and my disk station there are 4 backups allowed.

@wossogstsepp: As I said, I was talking about the network/remote backup tasks, not the local tasks. Afaik the "local" backups are limited per model, the network backup tasks globally to one.

I can't find anything like that in the release notes.
Anyway, in my case I am only backing up locally. I have set up 2 local backups (from volume1 to volume2) and can't add a third one.

@all:
@wossogstsepp:
I found the resource I was looking for. Please have a look at the "Special Notes" (number 8 )
=> "Time Backup supports up to one backup task for remote destination, and it is only available on the following models:"

http://www.synology.nl/support/beta_2011_dsm3.2.php?lang=nld

Ok. These are release notes for the beta of 3.2.
I think the release notes quoted in the first post supersede these, as they are much more recent.

Anyway, Synology have confirmed it is a bug and they will fix it in an upcoming release of TimeBackup.

Thanks to everybody for your feedback.

@Sepp: did Synology confirm the bug for both your case (incorrect limit for local sessions) and mine (incorrect limit for remote sessions) ? Thanks again.

They confirmed it for my issue (local).
But open a service request with them and ask, they are very helpful.
I could imagine it is the same bug for remote as well.

We have an 1511+ and it should have 8 tasks available. We have 5 sync tasks and 1 time backup task. It is not possible to create more time backup tasks.

Has anyone heard any news from Synology?
Is it fixed?

DSM 4.0-2228 + TimeBackup 1.1-2199: the interface has changed since DSM 3.x, but the problem is still present: no more than one network backup task can be created.

FYI, I opened a case to Synology and they answered me that only one remote task is currently supported by TimeBackup:
"As we know, the Time Backup just provide the only one Network backup task so far, it's by design, no matter what kind of model you used."
