I agree this needs changing too. Its really quite useless to have to move a folder so that its in the top two levels of the folder structure if I want to make it public. I end up with loads of duplicated folders so I don't accidently delete any and lose pictures. What a headache!

Please Synology change this so that any folder I make public will actually appear public.

Thanks
Nigel

I have signed the petition, too, and I beg you, Synology, on my knees (wait .. yep), please consider changing this. It's not only permissions what is the issue - it's the whole concept. Two levels of albums is too few. I can add description to first two folders olny, search does not consider albums in deeper levels, I can't sort albums even in the second level, only on the first one, I do not see the names of subfolders in DS photo+ app, and so on .. this is just wrong, sorry. Please fix it, and we will love you. Thanks!

The most important add on to PhotoStation. Without sub folder permissions, it's not possible to share events with your friends without creating another folder with the same photos (which is a waste of space).

Signed your petition as well because of all the reasons already mentioned.
Hope this petition is going to be taken serious at synology.

Tks for the initiativ taken!

I've signed your petition, I hope Synology will do something. It seems incredible to make such development choices. I can't use photostation because of this issue because I have this structure:
Code: Select all
|- album1 -> permissions OK
     |- 2011 -> permissions OK
          |- 2011_01_28_family -> permissions KO
               |- pic1.jpg
               |- pic2.jpg
          |- 2011_05_11_friends -> permissions KO
          |- aso.
|- album2

Hi, I am trying to change permissions on a single folder in the photo folder and don't seem to be able to.

Just how do you control permissions of the folders in the photo folder.

I'd like to add my voice to this, for what good it will do!

The most obvious structure is surely:

-Year
--Month
---Album

..with privacy needing setting on a per album basis. Rarely will a whole year or even month need to be private. This is really a design flaw which needs rectifying ASAP so that people can actually use this software in the most obvious way.

Synology - please fix this, priority. A lot is good, but this is a gaping problem meaning users cannot recommend (and hardly even use) what you have created.

+1 It's frustrating! Unfortunately, the new release 4.0 will have the same structure for PhotStation :( (after a quick check on Demo live).

+1 for this.

I have 3 levels of folders at least.

My photo
- year
-- event

My Mum photo...
My Dad photo...

If i want to share an event, i can only copy it to a new folder instead of setting a password in a third level.. This is totally ridiculous. please fix it!

And I can't even rename a 3rd level folder name in photo station.

Only way is change the photo name in DS File Station and wait for the indexing service to run slowly after change the album name...

+1

Just bought a DS412+ and began setting up the Photo Station. After a few quick tests and being happy with the remote access with iPhone and iPad, the first dissapointment was a fact. The sharing and access permissions part wasn't what I hoped for.

I have 4 levels at least:

User
-Camera
--Year
---Event

Is this something that will be updated in the future? Or do I have to forget about sharing with friends? Please give us an update about what Synology is going to do with these remarks?

I do really need to manage the restrictions on more than 2 folder.... I'm not able to use the built-in photostation because of this ridiculous limitation!!!

Fix it.

I opened a ticket about this and the following text is what they replied:
==============================================================
Hi ,

Thank you for your inquiry.

Regarding the setting of privilege for the deeper level subfolder, (up to 3 levels deep) our developers replied that currently privileges could be setup to the 2nd level subfolder. Deeper folders would follow the rules of the 2nd folder, which has been the same rule as previous versions of PhotoStation.
However, we have had other requests regarding this. I will be glad to help you forwarded this to our developers as a feature request, which we could hopefully see in a future release of DSM.
==============================================================

So...let's wait.
