I would like to se a button which would only remove what has been downloaded from this Safari extension with no effect on the torrent itself in other words, torrent in DSM keeps on seeding regardless of the clearing whiten this UI.

I've tested the a few situations, and the clear button works the same as the clear button in DSM (this one). It removes only the completed downloads that are not seeding.

Do you mean that you would like the clear button in the Safari Extension to only remove completed, not seeding download tasks without doing anything with completed tasks that were added using DSM? If you want to separate the download tasks you add using the extension from the ones added with DSM, you could use different user accounts for both. I've got no plans to change this feature because it would mean that the extension needs to keep track of what tasks were added with the extension.

Would it be possible to make this topic 'sticky' at the top of the topic list like the other browser extension and mobile app topics? It would make it easier for new user to find the extension :D.

firstly I'd just like to say I think this extension is great. Thanks LuukD for taking time out to develop and share this :D

I've been using it for about two months now and have just thought of a small potential improvement/feature.

After selecting the 'Download with Diskstation' from the dropdown, a confirmation dialog box is displayed. We have to press OK in order for box to disappear. WOuld it be possible to maybe integrate this extension with something like Growl, so I would just see a notification appear then disappear on it's own?

The only reason I am asking is that when you have a lot of links to click on, having to close the dialog box everytime is a bit of a chore for a lazy person like me :)

As I said. it's nothing major. Would just be nice.

Thanks

I would like to have this extensions clear button to function differently then; just remove "completed" from this extensions UI/list. So the overview one has is what is still downloading.

Or, expandable groups in which you see what is seeding and in that case keep then function in clear button as it's but the other group shows only what is being downloaded. Reason is getting better overview when one has more than 20 different torrents going, some are finished, some are not, and I for one don't want to delete inactive torrents, since the clear function in this extension and in DSM don't remove the actuals files...

I've also been thinking about a collapsible group with seeding (and finished?) tasks. This is something I wan't to add in a future update. But first Apple has to fix some bugs in the popover part of Safari, at the moment mouse events don't work properly.

Growl support would be great, but it is unfortunately not possible. Growl requires access outside Safari's extension 'sandbox' which isn't possible. I'll think about it, I don't really like the dialog either :P

Hi all,

This looks brilliant - unfortunately, it's not working at all for me. I'm running 10.7.2 and Safari 5.1.1 - whenever I click the toolbar button, it just shows "logging in...". I've checked that the URL, HTTP setting, login name and password are correct.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

James

EDIT: Cancel that - it works by IP, but not by domain (nas.local)...

I've tried using the .local address for my Diskstation and it doesn't work for me either. Nice to hear you've already found a work-around :). If you don't want to use the IP address, you could use DynDNS or another DNS service to create a domain for your Diskstation.

I'll see if I can find out why the .local address won't work :)

Cool. Not an issue for me from my LAN, as the NAS has a static IP. Happy hunting!

Version 1.4 is now available.
This version is almost completely rebuild to merge it with the Google Chrome extension. The only thing you'll notice from this is that the settings have moved from the Safari preference pane to a browser tab.

New in this version:
  • Notifications: The extension will show a notification when a download has finished (only if you have open tabs, unfortunately Safari doesn't support desktop Growl-like notifications).
  • Download button on ThePiratebay.org (saves you one right-click ;))
  • New settings-page: Can be opened by clicking the gears-icon in the lower right corner of the status popup.
  • Fixed missing YouTube download button when visiting the HTTPS version of YouTube
  • And many more small changes..
Existing users can update to the latest version in the Extensions-tab in Safari preferences (enable auto-updating to keep up to date automatically!).

New users can download the extension here.

As always: Let me know if you've got any problems, bugs or ideas :)

Absolutely loving this update. I think it's great how you no longer have to click okay on the on-screen notification anymore. Even without Growl integration, this new, discrete notification is still 'growl-like'

Many thanks for your hard work in creating this and making my life a bit easier :D

Update:
Just noticed a potential bug.

When you select or deselect the 'Click here to show options page' link, a new tab/page is opened with options displayed. From a user point of view, I would only expect the options page to be displayed when the checkbox was ticked.

With this in mind, maybe it would be better to make this a Link rather than a checkbox. So maybe the 'Click here to show options page' text could be changed to be a link instead and then remove the checkbox altogether?

Just a suggestion

Your extension is absolutely beautiful and works like charm, thank you very much.

I would only add a small feature request:

Can you please add buttons for Pause All and Resume All?

I use them quite often and that is the only thing for which I go to Download Station part of Synology Web UI.

If the functionality exists already, please tell me how can I achieve that...

Also I know I can just click on pause button of each download, but it is so much easier with Pause All and Resume All.

Thank you again in advance for any future updates. :)

Re: Safari Download Station Extension

Hi,

I'm obviously doing something stupid here because I can't get this to work :-)

Every time I try a download I get the "Failed to add download task. Please verify your URL".

I'm working on my local LAN and have specified the local IP address in the settings.

My DSM is set up for https (along with the setting to redirect http to https). I'm using a userid with access rights for the Download Station application and also with R/W access to the specified download folder in the DS configuration.

If I set the protocol to 'https' in your plugin and then click on the "DS" button I can see the error "Could not connect to DiskStation". If I change the 'http' to 'https' (in the plugin) then I don't get this error, but I still get the "Failed..." error (as above) when trying to download something.

FYI, I'm running Safari 5.1.2 (7534.52.7) and DSM 3.2-1944.

Also I have the following configured:

- Control Panel / DSM Settings / HTTP Service / Enable HTTPS Connection
- Control Panel / DSM Settings / HTTP Service / Automatically redirect HTTP connections to HTTPS
- Control Panel / Web Services / HTTP Service / Enable HTTPS connection for web services

Any thoughts appreciated.

BTW, is there a log file I can look at somewhere to give me some extra error info?

Cheers Ian

Thanks for your feedback. I agree that a link or button would be better, but it's not possible to add a link or button to the preference pane. The checkbox is the closest I can get.

Too bad it isn't working.. The 'failed to add download task' error means that your DiskStation rejected the URL. Could you post an URL that causes the error? And could you try to add the URL using the web interface (with the same user account)? If it works in the web interface: Does the task show up in the extensions popup?

Thanks for your suggestions.

I've worked out what the issue is...

Basically I tried the same userid/password in the DS web GUI as you suggested and the 1st time I opened the Download Manager it prompted me to specify a download folder. Once I selected this the download worked (via the GUI).

Also, after this your plugin is working too (so it was the lack of the setting for the download destination which was causing the issue).

BTW, the above was with HTTP (HTTPS is still not working, although I'm not too bothered about that).

Cheers Ian
