What are the biggest Harddisk's tested with this firmware?

Would 1,5TB & 2TB HDD's be supported?

If Yes wich Brand & Model HDD???

I think the problem is the AC adapter or power supply to be on the motherboard and not the software.

How can i upgrade the CS406e from DSM 2.0-731 to DSM 2.2-0959 or higher?

If i try to upgrade to v959 it complaints about the file is being corupted.
I can not find any lower DSM version on the forum for the CS406e.

Please do not redirect me to the install procedure i have downloaded all these files already for the CS406e and they all do not work.

I supppose i need a DSM 2.1 v??? before upgrade to v959, where can i find this file?

I have found it by myself.

You just have to extract the downloaded firmware to a folder where you wil see the file does not have any extention, do rename and give it the extention .PAT

This file wil be recognise for upgrading you CS406e !!!

help.
yesterday i upgraded the firmware of my synology cs406 with

CS406 DSM 3.1 1632 (upgrade from DSM 2.1 or higher only)

it worked well for some time BUT this morning i cannot access it anymore! all lights are green like normal function but cannot access it.

i unplugged it and after about 5 mins i can connect again BUT after about a minute it is giving a message improper shutdown. then i have to unplug again and the same thing.

what could i do? anything at least to recover the files. thanks

Conducting reset procedure
1.Have the Synology system in the ready state
2.Look at the back of the Synology System, find a small reset hole near the USB ports
3.Using a paper clip, gently depress and hold down the recessed button for about four seconds
4.The system will beep once Release the button immediately, holding it down may trigger system firmware reinstall
5.Launch the Synology Assistant and detect the Synology system.

i cannot even reset. i pressed. no beep. nothing happens. disconect & connect, had a connection for about a minute then gone again.

CS-406 Firmware: DSM 3.1-1632

currently 1 western digital 2tb drive model WD20EARS.
Works Great. I only use file share , media server and radio.
the system runs very smooth.

I did have to download the .pat via firefox and upgrade the unit via a hardware not wifi.

i streamed mkv files to a WD Media Player with no problems.

i ordered 3 more WD drives to setup raid 5.

I know there's a new release out. Unfortunately, I'm currently stuck on 10KB/s cellphone internet and will be until my ISP digs a hole for a new phone line. Hopefully that will happen early next week.

I am also experiencing a very slow transfer speed on cs 406e. Does anyone know how to fix it?
Could it have something to do with jumbo framing.

How slow?

This is with jumbo frames on and 7200rpm drives. As you can see, performance on the CS406e with RAID5 isn't great. Slower HDDs and jumbo frames off will only make it worse. The device is more than five years old now, you can't expect the speed of current models.

Is there a way to overclock the CPU?
If the CPU gets warmer we can always put a heatsink on it to run cooler!
