CalDAV and Sunbird

I was rather excited to see CalDAV in the list of features in the new DSM, however perhaps I misunderstand exactly what it should do. After enabling the service and creating a calendar, I tried to subscribe to it with Sunbird 1.0b1. Alas, nothing happens! It seems that I may need to point to a specific ics file, but if I look in the directory that I created for the new calendar I see no file ending in .ics.

My aim is to use the Synology as a server for my personal calendar which I should then be able to access from anywhere via the internet and with various different clients. In fact, if anyone can recommend any other clients then I would be glad to try them out.

I can't really help you but I too cannot get this tow work. I have the latest version of sunbird. I try to Create a new calendar in Sunbird, point to the URL (i.e. http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:5005/calendars/john and it seems to connect but when I try to create an event nothing is visible in sunbird yet I see it creating an ics file on the synology box. I'm assuming I should be using CalDev and not ICS correct? Seems to work on my IPhone correctly but not with Sunbird. Is anyone else having issues?

With the admin account you need to configure a folder for calendars. Click "list calendars" and add a new calendar. Enter a name with spaces and select /homes/<username>/. Then in the Sunbird you need to enter:

http://<hostname>:5005/home/<username>/<calendarname>

notice "home" without the "s" in the URL.

CalDAV still isn't working right, though. The name of the calendar is always fixed to what you had setup with the admin account. Rename doesn't work. Adding new calendars in sunbird (or Apple iCal) to the newly created CalDAV calendar works, but the name is always "untitled" and can't be changed.

Thanks for the replies. synpower, I have tried to follow your directions to the letter, and I have made progress! However, two things: I was not permitted create a calendar name with spaces through the Synology web interface, and found that I needed to include the "s" in homes. However, the final issue I had is that you must choose "New Calendar..." in Sunbird, not "Subscribe to Remote Calendar..."

Now things seem to work, and also with https (although Sunbird requires you to jump through hoops a bit for unregistered SSL certificates).
