Synology doesn't announce release dates for new versions ahead of time, so no.
And I'm actually glad they don't. If you announce a release date in advance, you're committed to it. And when you then at some point discover a nasty bug in a beta just before the scheduled release, you have to do one of two things. Either push back the release or ship the new version with a known nasty. Both of these options disappoint customers.
Therefore I think it is a lot better to just say, the new version is ready when it's ready.

But if you want a guess, I can tell you that all previous betas have lasted 1-2 months. Based on that the new version should be out mid-September at the latest.

DSM 3.2 ... General Release ETA

Postby n_jepson » Fri Sep 02, 2011 12:41 pm

Having read the features of DSM 3.2 I really can't wait for it to be on general release, so I'm just wondering if there is a target date when DSM 3.2 will be production.

Obviously this will/may shift according to beta programme and issues found ...

Thanks in advance

Seriously? While the first OS X Lion developer preview was released more than half a year ago, we still have to wait another month for proper and stable support?

I am sorry about it, but I really start to regret having purchased a Synology NAS.

Well I got the below yesterday

Dear Synology+Mac users,

DSM 3.1 or earlier versions do not support Mac Lion. However, DSM3.2 Beta has just been released which includes the compatibility to work with Mac Lion. If you would like to participate in the beta program, then we encourage you to sign up using the link below.

And the official one will be released at the beginning of September.

Sincerely yours,
Adair Hsu

Now that sounds more like something I can with, though I still have the illusion we already could have Lion support now if this feature wouldn't have been linked to the big DSM 3.2 awesomeness upgrade.

So maybe I'm a happy non-regretting Synology customer soon again.

Hi

@winterriot
This update is not for the Lion update only, the DSM 3.2 have so many new improvements, the AFP protocol part is done and ready already on 18. August with the release of the DS x07 DSM update.

@northyorks
I wouldn't get to hanged up with the release date, That's one thing I like with Synology, They don't release a official DSM, until it's ready.
Regards Michael

Mike, I'm aware of this, and I appreciate the hard work done by every single Synology engineer bringing us even more sparkling awesomeness in the future, but that's exactly my point: Not having a "minor" DSM 3.1 upgrade for recent devices, focused on implementing the AFP/Netatalk changes, is quite a fundamental issue to many Mac users out there.

Linking that one to a release bundled with tons of other improvements that have to be thoroughly tested already led to a long period of waiting and frustration, unable either to upgrade to OS X Lion or using the Synology NAS as a Time Machine backup device.

And no, Beta releases are in no way an acceptable solution on productive systems.

Hence my whiny lament. ;-)

I agree on reliability but the expectation was set for 3.2 in August. We invested in Synology and must now delay rollout until October? Any progressive updates? Release candidates? There have been few updates the issues posted nor any communication on status. Delays happen, but communication should happen more often.

Yes, we knew the risks of beta but had the expectation been set for October, we would have waited in purchasing all the new 1511's or selected another option.

How about a release candidate or something. Surely we have progress since July.

Sorry, why matters and helps people plan.
Cheers,
Chris

No doubt a stupid question but if the beta is installed is there any problems installing the final? :?: I ask because of the constant reminders that if the beta is installed it can't be removed, although I assume that a complete reinstall would fit that problem albeit with the loss of any data! :?

It's the same thing with a beta or a final build: you cannot 'remove it'. The upgrade tool simply checks what is build number, if you provide it with something that has higher number, it will allow you to upgrade, and refuse to proceed otherwise.
Beside, the upgrade tool is simply unpacking a .tar archive and overwriting all files in the system partition.
The only difference between a beta release and a final one is that for a beta Synology doesn't guarantee that all the (new) functions work.
