Need help setting up remote access to DS1511+

Hi,

Just got my new Diskstation DS1511+ and have succeeded in setting it up at home. I can access the NAS from my windows and macbook and can also download files and stream them to my PS3. So that is all good so far.

Now I need to set up the system so that I can access the Diskstation remotely over the internet so that I can manage downloads, use the iTunes server, etc, etc.

I've been messing around for a day on this already without any luck and am really just trying anything and everything. The instructions don't appear to be too straightforward (at least for me). I am using the Diskstation DS1511+ connected to my Linksys WRT54G router.

Can someone please help with some very simple instructions for what I need to do to set this up? I don't think I can use the EZ-Internet tool as the exact router/firmware is not listed. I also believe that my ISP may be blocking port 80 if that also effects things...

Any help would be very much appreciated!

Hi Rick,
first of all, provide yourself with a dynamic dns service (i.e. no-ip.com or dyndns.com) and setup it to your router (Setup -> DDNS).
After this, try to reserve a static IP address to DS (directly from DSM, i.e. 192.168.1.2).
Go back to your router config, and follow these indications:
http://portforward.com/english/routers/ ... ys/WRT54G/

Managed to get it working after continuing to mess about with the settings similar to those you linked to.

Although for some reason the DYNDNS.com address does not always work so sometimes and in some places I find I need to use a numeric IP address to connect to it... Not sure why that is.

This is a strange issue... Did you try to verify youra Dyndns account directly from Dyndns.com website? Maybe there is a problem up there.

Need help setting up remote access to DS212J

I have been struggling to set up remote and ftp, so far no luck. The tutorials are not really informative, I would say a bit confusing for beginners. Anyways, can you please post step by step instructions on setting up remote access and ftp through a router. My Diskstation is DS212J.
