I do entirely understand that Synology themselves are not publishing 3.2 firmware for the 406. I am also quite aware of the exact models they are fully supporting.

However, just a few posts back alfredo posted links to a patched versions of the 3.1 (1613) firmware that do work on the 406 - and further back again is an outline of the steps required to carry out the patching.

My post was asking if anyone is already working on patching the 3.2 beta - which fixes OS X Lion incompatibilities - for the 406. If no-one else is already doing so, then I can put some effort into it, but I don't wish to duplicate work (and I have lots of other stuff on).

The reason why I was able to release DSM 3.1 for the x06 series is because it existed for the x07 series. Since the hardware between both series is virtually identical, patching the firmware was fairly straight forward. Now that Synology stopped releasing updates for the x07 series, things would become a lot more difficult for me. If not nearly impossible given the size of the firmware, areas to test, limited audience, ...

I will however make the upcoming release (which adds compatibility with OSX Lion) available for the x06 series.

Just to reiterate, Alfredo, I'd be very happy to help with testing any patched firmware for the 406. I have a spare set of drives, and would have a go myself if you weren't already planning to.

Just dropped 1613 on my 406e. Seems to be good. I think I liked the old UI better, though...

It would be an amazing feature if they had a shell built into the web UI.

I had already uploaded both a while ago, but didn't have time to test them. This update should bring support for AFP and Time Machine on Lion. And it's officially the final one, so have fun with it.
