File Server in AD please

Hi All
As I haven't done anything about Synology. I am asked to implement a Synology NAS to be a file server like on Windows server. Firstly please tell me how to partition. Then how can I set it up such as F: for finance, P: for payroll and so on.

This is fairly simple (as simple as on a Windows Server actually).

E.g.
- Plug your Synology NAS into your network
- Log on to the web management interface (called DSM) of the DiskStation
- Adapt network settings (fixed IP, subnet and DNS server for instance)
- Add the DiskStation to your Windows domain
- In Active Directory, create a security group called 'Finance' or something like that
- In Active Directory, add users to this group
- In Active Directory, create a security group called 'Payroll' or something like that
- In Active Directory, add users to this group
- In DSM, create a shared folder 'Finance'
- In DSM, create a shared oflder 'Payroll'
- In DSM, give the appropriate permissions on the Finance shared folder for the domain group 'Finance'
- In DSM, give the appropriate permissions on the Payroll shared folder for the domain group 'Payroll'

Now the domain users can allready access the shared folders in their browser using
\\<DiskStation name or IP>\Finance
\\<DiskStation name or IP>\Payroll

You can map these shares automatically to the F: and P: drives by using Windows' standard tools, or you could create a GPO in Microsoft Group Policy Management, use a batch file or vbscript as logon script...

You can choose how to partition the dive(s) in your NAS however you like. Furthermore Synology's DSM offers qouta management to keep control of disk space usage.
