Support for the Logitech Alert cameras?

Postby chjohans » Sun Jul 10, 2011 6:16 pm

Any plans to support these cameras? And has anybody tried to configure a Logitech Alert camera with Surveilance Station?

I just bought a logitech alert packet with both a indoor and outdoor camera. I chose these cameras because of the "all in one" solution with regards to hardware setup.

But I've read som bad things about their software, *and* you have to pay a yearly fee to access your cameras remotely. I have a couple og Synology NAS boxes but I've never tried Surveilance Station but from what I read it's working very well.

So, what about Logitech Alert support og experience anyone?

I thought we all went to NAS boxes specifically to get away from proprietary camera systems (like Logitech's).

Well yes, that is exactly what I want to do. The Logitech camera (hardware) is not at all that proprietary and it works with other 3rd part software like Blue Iris and Security Monitor Pro.

But I have a few Synology NAS boxes and would like to use it with them. The Logitech Alert camera is my choice because "all in 1 hardware solution" (easy to deploy, just one power socket and network through the power line), not because of it's software solution.

I prefer not to use the included software at all, hence the question re compatibility with Synology.

Surely someone must know something?

(Have not tried myself yet because I'm not currently at the location where I have the cameras, it's at a vacation house on different continent. But will try when I'm there in a few weeks, regardless of any response here)

Hi.

Any news, any plan?

Just for general info :
rtsp://admin:Password@LogitechAlert-cam ... utionVideo

but I didn't find a compatible hardware in surveillance station. And wasn't able either to set it up manually

Best regards

I have 4 Logitech alert cameras installed at my house. Is the Synology Surveillance Station software compatible with these cameras. NEED answer asap. Plan to buy a Synology DS211 NAS, but only if compatible. Thank you!

So still no answer as to whether or not we can use the Logitech cams with our Synology NAS's! That's a shame, as chjohans said the hardware is quite good, the cameras I'm looking at record in 720p! And are very competitively priced, I haven't seen any other ip cameras on the market that record in HD for less than $600 and I'm sure you will agree that that is a bit steep for a home security set up.
If anyone has now tested these cameras could you please update us with your results, would be much appreciated. (Logitech 700e and 700i cameras)

Yeah, they are a bit pricey, but they are nice. I have tried adding them manually to the camera station on DSM 3.2. No go. I emailed their support from the contact page and he did say he would add it to the list, but no guarantees. Maybe if we all email him it will be noticed that alot of people want support :)

could also be that logitech is not so keen on distributing the API of the cameras to Synology.. without that they can't do much..

They don't need an API. They just need to record the rtsp stream at rtsp://IPADDRESS/HighResolutionVideo
It's not a proprietary video, just h.264.

i guess it's possible like that.. but then there might not be much control on quality, resolution (at least not from within SS). Maybe SS needs to provide a "generic ip cam" option which just connects to an RTSP stream like you say.. and it records whatever it gets, quality and resolution settings are then set in the camera itself...

Hello,

Question for Synology:

Is it expected that the management of "Logitech Alert" cameras is integrated into the DSM 4.0?

Synology says the addition of more than 200 new cameras in the compatibility list.
(Logitech Alert cameras are included?)

In advance thank you for your response.

I agree also waiting for support of Alert 750i or 700e so that I can add more than 6 limit of Logitech to DS1511+

Yes, and it is such a disappointment. Still no mention of support for any Logitech cameras in the release notes for the beta FW of the upcoming DSM 4 :x

Synology used to listen to their customers, but that was years ago, they now seem pretty ignorant! :(
