Onkyo nr509 as media renderer on Audiostation

Postby somesv » Wed May 25, 2011 1:37 pm

Hi All,
Hoped my problem would be solved after updating my 211j with the new beta DSM 3.1-1725, but unfortunately, it did not.

I have a Onkyo TX-NR509 network receiver that audiostation actually sees as a media renderer. So far so good. But when I add a MP3 to play to the NR509, it doesn't start playing. It does try, but fails. If I change the volume with DSaudio on my Ipad2, the volume goes down (only thing it does), so there is a connection, but DSaudio and the NR509 seems not to understand each other.

I also have a Philips NP-2900 media renderer and a AC Ryan Mini, and these work fine on the Ipad (and since DSM 3.1-1725 directly from DSAudio App 3.1.1-041)

Today updated my onkyo software to 1.02, but with the same result.

Anyone??

Hi,

I'm using an ONKY as well (NR708), and it works very nice. My first recommendation would be to check your ONKYO, and see if you can play the songs from your NAS. You can do this by selecting the NET/USB as input on your ONKYO.

Does your NAS Name appears in there ? And can you play your songs that way?

Regards

Geert

(corrected mine is a 708)

From the onkyo I can play all my music directly from my nas. Also, with my iPad and iPhone i can play files from my nas using the Onkyo remote App. But the DSaudio App is so much nicer and more user friendy. i'm pretty sure it's the Onkyo which seems to be incompatible.

Anyone got the media renderer function working from DSaudio with the newer Onkyo models ( TX-NR 509/609/709/809 )???

I agree 100 % on this. I have it running with ten TX-NR708, but that is indeed the previous one. I do have 2 issues at this stage:
1. skipping songs (1-3-5) are being played out of the 1-2-3-4-5. Synology has acked this issue and is looking into this.
2. the volume control slider is not very reliable. It jumps very quickly if you change the volume. e.g. it is at 40. And you slide the volume down to 30. It goes from 40 . to 10 .. to 12..to 25 ..to finally the value of 30.

Not really helping but at least you have some additional info. Maybe an additional comment: any firewall that could be blocking on your router, between the wireless and wired devices?

Thanks

Sorry, missed Geert's comment from him using the 709 without issues. Maybe I should check Onkyo support instead of synology, cause it 's not very likely the issue lies with synology since it seems to work with the 9 series of Onkyo.

Solved. It works fine if i set my onkyo to net, dlna. And i have to make sure i'm not playing any music from a server or webradio.
I can't start from a standbye receiver. I have to put it in net mode en set it to the right menu, and then i works fine. Maybe on future upgrades, the pnkyo will also respond from sleepmode...

OK, indeed, that is true. You need to switch it on first, and select NET. And then it works. I use the ONKYO remote to switch it .. if I am too lazy to get up and switch the amp on myself.  Glad you got it to work !

Also make sure you download the latest ipad version, as that fixes an issue with the volume control.

Hi

I'm glad that you solved this problem because I'm going to complete such set (DS+onkyo)in the nearest future. Could you describe me how does it work in practice, is it user friendly. How does the application look like on TV, maybe you could take few photos from TV screen. Thanks for help. mflorek@mebloart.eu

I have connected my Onkyo tx-nr709 up through a wireless adapter, but have had no luck see the server I have set up. The server is a ds212. I am clearly missing something, just not sure what it is.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi all,
I have a similar problem. Since I switched to the 4.1 version of DSM, AudioStation and DSAudio application for ipad no longer detects my Onkyo NR509. Whereas previously it worked very well.
I just rebooted everything without success.
Does anyone have an idea?

Thank you.

Hi,

I have just tried it again onkyo and it seems to work. I am using the 'admin' as the login on the DSAudio on my iPad. I also tried the AudioStation in the webbrowser and also there the onkyo is showing up as a device to render the music to.

In Audio Station there is a possibility to enable logging. Maybe that will give you some more information:
Settings - Options - Enable Audio Station Log for diagnosis.

Where does the Audio Station log file go to? How do we examine the logs for diagnosis?

Edit: nevermind I figured it out. There are 2 ways:

1. from within Audio Station, go to Settings and then click Options and hit Download button near the logging option. This saves a file called "audiolog" which is compressed (gzip). You have to open this file with 7zip or similar, and extract the "audiolog~" file inside. You can then view this with Notepad etc.

2. If you have direct SSH or Telnet access you can simply access /var/log/audio_debug_msg e.g.
tail -f /var/log/audio_debug_msg
