Build my own DSM 2.2-0959 for DS-106, update: 2.3, 3.0, 3.1

I'm in the same situation: an old DS106e, wanting to update to DSM3.1, but afraid of the consequences.
Did you go ahead with the upgrade, and did it succeed?

Hi, I am now running my DS-101g+ with DSM3.1-1613, using the steps that I previously installed DSM3.0-1342. But this time I started from a newly installed harddisk WD-10EADS-00M2B0 (the harddisk was fixed with WDIDLE3.exe first).

First, I install the DS-107_1613.pat (first time install for over two hours, stop at format harddisk about 55%, I stopped and reinstall again and then successfully installed within one hour).

I run DiskStation for three days without edit /etc.defaults/synoinfo.conf but it works normally.

Yesterday I decided to edit /etc.defaults/synoinfo.conf, I first enabled the telnet & SSH under Terminal, then using Putty to login as root and edit /etc.defaults/synoinfo.conf by the method described in Forum before.

So the inevitable question.

Firmware 3.1-1742 is not available for the DS107. I guess that means, the hacking ends for our DS106's as well.
Unless somebody knows about an alternative?

I see from http://tools.forret.com/synology/bootstrap.php - the DS109j also uses the Freescale mpc8241 PPC

nope, Im running 1742 from DS108j on my DS106. To enable eSATA you have to copy
/usr/syno/hotplug/pci.agent
/usr/syno/hotplug/pci.rc
and complete directory
/usr/syno/hotplug.d/pci
from latest DS107 firmware.

I currently have DS106e with DSM 3.0-1354. Can I upgrade straight to DSM 3.1-1613? Unable to find 3.1-1594 on Synology Download site.

I can confirm success with 3.1 - 1613 on a 106e.

I did have to do a complete reset reformat as described earlier in this thread to create enough free space for the operating system files.

I have now running DSM3.1-1594 from DS108j on my DS106e. How do I now enable eSATA as I use an external eSata to backup? Would it be wise to now upgrade to DSM 3.1-1613 from DS107 by editing /etc.defaults/synoinfo.conf to 107?

I want to enable eSATA to the DS 106e having just upgraded firmware DSM_DS-108j_1594 pat . How do I copy the code from DS107 firmware? Do I just write the above code?
