Quoting the RP model would make sense as they do only quote 1 number and the RP would use more than the non RP. Other than the guide showing both RPXS/XS, I can personally confirm the RS34 definitely comes in a non RP version as mine will hopefully arrive tomorrow, or at worst, next week ;)

docchris wrote:a better question is - why is the d2411+ quoted at 146W?! with its tiny little atom processor

That's interesting, didn't notice that. Must be a typo on the max draw, probably meant to be 116w as a guess.

Thanks for the update => 3GB support on DS2411 etc.

I'm not sure if it's a typo because it's the same value on every spec I've found and even in the graphic with the power comparison the value is around 140-150.

On the other side, I do have no idea how this tiny little machine should consume that much power on load. Maybe someone messed around with the data at the beginning and now every value is copied from the same, wrong source? At least, I hope so... :D

I was guessing that the numbers may either have been the RP model like you mentioned, OR it may be that the xeon has Enhanced intel SpeedStep, and has more granular processor stepping than an Atom.

Now that I think about it, it really could just be that there's a lot of efficiency, so the can get more done per clock than the atom, and sits at a lower power state. Either way, 146w access seems a little high for those machine.

I am a little curious as to the DS2411+ ability to actually run a 24 drive configuration. I wonder that the cpu utilization is for that many drives (and multiple arrays)

@jjcrandall: I thought about the same thing, but normally reduced power handling only results in higher idle power consumption, not in higher max power consumption. In fact the TDP for the used Atom D525 is 13Watt. I'm completely sure that the used 3,1Ghz Dual-Core in the xs series has a much higher TDP.

I believe the 3.1 Ghz Xeon in the new xs series is around 80 to 95Watt TDP. See here;

Looks like release delay on xs units.

Had news that my eta is now 10 June.

my RS2211+ has 10x3tb drives in it as a single volume (SHR-2 disk) - cpu utilisation is very good, i get 100+MB/sec read & write, and it draws just over 100W, with WD-GP drives though...

Interestingly I was basing my hdd purchase decision for my RS3411xs on the compatibility list of the RX1211 unit and was all set to acquire the 3TB WD-GP drives.

I have just rechecked the list and WD 3TB HDDs are no longer listed as supported on any of RS24/RX12 units.

I've just purchased (arriving in 2 days) a DS2411+ locally here in Australia, and I was wondering if Synology has released any more information on this model? I'd really like to have a read through the manual before I start setting it up, and anything else relevant that people can think of.

almost everything that woudl be in the manual will be related to DSM 3.1 and that will remain unchanged from other models like the rs211+ (which is almost idnetical to your ds2411+) or to the ds1511+ so you could just read their manual.

I thought about as much, and Synology's Facebook page linked me to the latest model that covers DSM 3.1, I was just hoping for anything product specific that I needed to know, like LED lights and a correct set up procedure. But I presume this will all be in the box, so I'll just keep reading and learning about DSM 3.1 for the time being.
