Hitachi HDS723020BLA642 support ?

Postby lkynkaid » Tue Mar 01, 2011 7:00 pm

Dear all,

I've been looking for some info, is Hitachi - 2TB - 64Mo Cache - SATAIII - 7200 RPM :HDS723020BLA642 is supported ?
Is there any reason for not being supported (SATA III support, too much cache...)

I would like to buy a 211+ to replace my 209 and I'm interested in this disk.

Thanks all for your answer and your help.

I recommend you install a hard disk 100% compatible, if you want a 2 TB disk hitachi I recommend you the Hitachi HDS722020ALA330. This model have 32 MB cache and 7200 rpm. I have this 2 HDD on a DS211+ and it works fine.
DS412+ with 2 x HDS723030ALA640 3 TB; 2 x WD30EFRX 3 TB (DSM 4.2 3211) (SHR)

Hi,

Also very interested in this HD. Got the following answer from Synology.

Any dates when you plan to test the 2TB version (HITACHI DESKSTAR 7K3000 2TB 7200RPM SATA/600 64MB)?

I apologize that we currently do not have such date available yet as we are now waiting for the samples from Hitachi. I would recommend you to register to Synology eNews so you may follow the latest HDD update from us. Thank you.

I notice that the 3TB version of the 7k3000 is now listed, so shouldn't be too long you wouldn't think...

Blah, I was hoping not to find this topic.

I too have weighed the hard drive, and am dieing to go with the HDS723020, mainly because of the reviews and extra cache. Not to mention, I find it hard to pay the same amount of money for a lesser hard drive with worse reviews.

Judging by the compatibility for the brand, and the extra compatibility of the 3 TB drives. I'm simply forced to experiment with these. I won't knock Synology if it doesn't work, but I would like to see their testers? successfully test the compatibility of the drives in a reasonable fashion, as I ordered my first Synology nas today, and am currently hoping for great things.

Did you determine if the SATAIII 64MB cache drive is supported? (HDS723020BLA642)

I'm using 10 of these drives in two DS1511+ with no trouble at all.

Power draw in full use is about 57 W per DS1511+ (useful to know as it is best to have them protected with an UPS).

In use for hours (while creating RAID volume), hottest disks reach 41 °C / 106 °F in a room at 23 °C.

The two DS1511+ are connected to a Netgear Prosafe GS108T, both using 802.3ad LAG link aggregation with no trouble either.

(edited with more accurate figures)

Hey guys,

Go, go, go : it works !
Ds211+ with those disks and a wireless usb key is perfect, even more quiet than my mac mini.

Hope it helps.

Do you know if these drives are compatible with the DS211, the comaptibility list does not have them listed?

Thanks

Hi,

I'm running two of these drives in a raid-1 setup in a DS211.
Works like a charm. Hibernation also works.
