iTunes Artist does not show up

Postby Der Peter » Mon Jun 18, 2007 8:49 pm

I started the all new iTunes service on 101j, placed the usual named subfolders in the "music" folder (copied from local iTunes). I can play the music on the clients, but some information (e. g. Artist) does not show up?

What have I done wrong?

Or let's say it the other way around. I have iTunes and all the songs on my PC. I want to transfer all the songs to the 101j iTunes server. How do I do this, without loosing ANY information?

Let me guess: The music is encoded as MPEG4 / AAC? I got the same issue and all tags only show up for MP3s ...

I'am helping a Palm Os developer for a Roku player with a Synology music store and he shows album artist even if all my playlist is an AAC music file format so May Synology do it too ?

I guess you are guessing right  . The extension of the files is .m4a, so i think they are MPEG4 (I ripped a few hundered of my CDs with iTunes).

As you got the same issue, Synology is the one to be asked. This is what I am doing here and now.

There are tools like iTuinesSync or iTunes Agent out there, but they only do the job for MP3-players...

iTunes appears af changing settings.... BUG???

Postby smalle » Wed Jun 20, 2007 9:41 pm

My DS-106e iTunes server did not appear either. Then, with Itunes already open I logged on to the DS-106e, changed the name of the iTunes Share... and presses "OK".. Suddenly my iTunes server did appear in iTunes... Unfortunately I have to rename my iTUnes share each time I want to reconnect. i.e after a reboot of laptop. Otherwise my iTunes server will not appear....

Does any of u dudes have the same problem?? Is this a bug in the new 2.0.3 - 0462 firmware for DS-106e?? or is it just me??

Songs which were purchased from the iTunes sever cannot be read by our system, because the files are DRM protected (unless you use the more premium iTunes Service). Because of this DRM protection, we cannot identify the file, and therefore stream the file over the LAN.

Franklin, my tracks are not bought from iTunes but imported from CDs and then copied to the /music folder. I have the same problem but some have artists listed others dont. The problem lies with MP3 and MP4 compatability.

Franklin, thanks for your answer. Nevertheless it's not on DRM. As Tocix I haven't bought any track at the store, but alle of them are imported CDs in MP4 format.

Please send me a sample of the song file which cannot be indexed by our system. You will need to compress the song file into a .zip or .rar file, and send it to forum@synology.com.

Please be sure to post your user name, and the thread topic link, so I know what is the song file for.

Thanks

Der Peter-

Thanks for the file, I've sent over to our engineering team to look over, and to gather more information.

Semi-off topic/experimental data.
More observation about the behavior about our system and DRMed iTunes media

Using a song that was purchased from iTunes, it had the extension of .m4p. However, when I changed this extension to .m4a; the iTunes server was able to detect the file, and stream it to my iTunes client. In conjunction with the information from this thread I was able to make the iTunes server read DRMed files. However, content information, such as album information was not passed over to the iTunes client.

Please note while this information is for personal and legal uses only. Users must comply with all applicable local laws and regulations with regards using DRM media.

Update;

The file extension .m4p will be added in a future update of our system, I'm still researching into the Metadata indexing....
