How to install USB printers with Synology Servers
The Type III LPR method is strongly recommended to install your printer.

Please be aware that for multifunction printers, that only the print function is supported.
Note: Synology only supports POSTSCRIPT printers for Macintosh Systems. Please verify that your printer is PostScript capable if you are using a Macintosh! You may verify this with the link above.

Note: Not all USB Printers will be supported, the reason for this is that all printer manufactures, and even their individual models do not conform to one specific standard of communicating data. Because of this, we cannot support every single printer that is created.

Much to my dismay, I have been unable to get my Stylus R300 to work with my DiskStation. Has anyone had success with this printer? Can anyone offer guidance?

My HP Deskjet 895 Cxi runs fine on my DS-101J

The HP LaserJet 1300 works with the DS-106e for basic printing. There are some limitations on advanced functions (in the Windows driver software?) like manual duplex printing.

Edit: After setting up the printer using an LPR port as recommended on the Synology support pages, manual duplex printing also works - as long as you use the PCL 5e or PCL 6 printer drivers. The PS driver works for basic printing, but has problems with functions like manual duplex.

Just got my old Epson Stlyus Colour 600 up and running with a centronics to USB cable and my DS-106e, no problems at all.

Tired previously with the USB printer port on my router and it would not work at all, so quite surprised when it did!!

HP Deskjet 960c works fine with my DS-106e

I can confirm that the HP LaserJet 2550L works perfectly on both Mac and PC with the DS-106e.

As a side note I did not need to use CUPS or any special drivers for the Mac.
